My bet is that fishing ships have been sunk, by mistake of course, by nuclear subs since the end of the second world war.

The submarine HMS Conqueror flew one after sinking the Belgrano in the Falklands (the Belgrano is still the only ship ever to have been sunk by a nuclear submarine).

In 1910, George Constant Louis Washington developed his own instant coffee process shortly thereafter, and first marketed it commercially. There were previous patenets on instant coffee, but they were not using the freeze drying process and were vastly different than what you would find today in the grocery store.

Major produce of the Bahamas

6,765 Chicken Meat
3,753 Vegetables
2,273 Lemons & Limes
2,217 Grapefruit & Pomelos
1,185 Tomatoes

From 2004 agricultural production statistics in the Bahamas as follows:

Grapefruit - 13,000 tons
Lemon & limes - 8,700 tons
Poultry - 8,500 tons
Tomatoes - 5,000 tons

Now I know that was 12 years ago but grapefruit was by far the largest of these agricultural activities. I can't imagine it has changed that much. Where are you getting your figures from CC?

The state-funded Centre for Contemporary History (ZZF) in Potsdam has given the official figure of 138 deaths, including people attempting to escape, border guards, and innocent parties. However, researchers at the Checkpoint Charlie Museum and some others had estimated the death toll to be significantly higher.

Your question asked how many people died trying to escape East Germany, not East Germany via the Berlin Wall. I think it's definitely higher than 138.
