Wondering if JBats is having some undisclosed injury issues. In any event, we are winning without either JB or Tulo.

JB is on the decline, he is in twilight of career. His WAR this season is only 0.6,
Well let's not dump on JB just yet during a recent slump. He has a negative dWAR but he's still has a decent oWAR and OPS. This is a 6 time AS and one of the best 6 year stretches of offence in the past 40 years, excluding the steroid era. He is 35 but he is going to contribute big time this year.

This why it makes no sense to resign guys when there current contract hasn't expired. It was a nice strategic move by JB and his agent tell the organization what the terms were in springing training, knowing he was at the height of his popularity after his epic home run and bat flip, but no reason to negotiate a contract with a person that is still under contract.

True. But look at Edwin. He might have have been angling for 20 mil prior, but with what his numbers will likely be at the end of the season he's looking at 25 mil now.

Certainly looks like EE would be the better player to keep.

Hate to agree with you guys as I am a big Bautista fan. For a guy in his contract year he isn't outstanding offensively or defensively. Has a lot of little nagging injuries. EE looks like the first choice and his value is on the rise if he can keep this streak going. I expect he will cool off again but he has shown he can still get the job done.
If Bautista gets himself heathy again and his numbers pick up to what the fans expect from him it should make the choice more difficult. Besides me. does anyone think his bat has slowed down?

I'm a huge JB fan and I think he will be good this year. I am confident in him since he still leads the league in walks and has a great OBP. He has a great hitters eye and is able to foul off strikes he does not like. If his SO to BB ratio goes bad then I would be concerned.

As Martin showed he can go to lighter bat to raise his Avg to trade off the power. He was never a muscular guy and has relied on great mechanics to generate bat speed and power.

Absolutely brutal call on Pillars slide into 2nd. He adhered to all elements of the new takeout slide rule so they made up a new interpretation. Wow.
Hope that doesn't cost us the game.
rule takes away from the game as it makes double plays too predictable

Hard take outs are a skill and fun to watch

What is the reasoning for the new slide rule? Were shortstops getting injured?

So.......

Is Brooke Jacoby still a shitty hitting coach?
And as far as I can tell you can trace this winning streak to when Gibby shook up the lineup by having Joey Bats in the leadoff spot.

Finally I said a bunch of pages back that this team was too good and well under performing hitting but had the pitching. I'm just going to pat myself on the now.

JD is officially awesome. Get HBP but declines free base so he can drive in 2 run with a triple and comes into score on Saunders 2nd 3 run HR.

I said 15 PER year. 3 years with an option. As he will be turning 34 this year I stand by the years although looking at how good he is going right now I think I may well be mistaken on the $ value. I think a lot will depend on his health. If he is past his back and finger issues then good chance. If he ends up on the DL(please no!) It could modify.

Anyway long way to the season end.

They should pull Sanchez after the 5th tonight. Give him the win but save the arm.

Well let's not get ahead of ourselves. We've gone 7-1 scoring a bunch of runs against a couple of weak pitching staffs in Phil and Baltimore.

We also got shutout by a no name rookie. And before that Detroit shut down our batters. So let's keep it in perspective.

We are trending the right way but will need Tulo and JB to get healthy before we make a serious run at the playoffs.

If EE gets to 39 HR's Gibbons will sit him down (like last year) so he won't add to the total.
