Good news IMO. We don't need cops guarding holes in the ground. Take those savings and invest in the transit system.

One guy interviewed by CTV at Yonge Eglington said that it is a very safe area (unless you are an E.I. dude who is a Raptors fan) so no need for the police. Maybe it is safe because of the police?

I'm all for containing costs the police budget has swelled tremendously over the years. But maybe part of the reason we are safer as a city (compared to 10 years ago) is that we have more police officers on the street?

Maybe we could have a group of people, let's call them "para-police", who could do mundane stuff like getting a cat out of a tree, responding to a noise complaint, watching traffic lights, etc. Sort of like at the "green hornet" pay grade.

Maybe if they focused their resources on street gangs who recklessly fire guns into crowded public spaces instead of busting all the cannabis shops (which actually forces people to buy their weed from the gangs)

The Chief and Mayor said they will focus on "high crime" areas. Is this code for "racial profiling"?

Nah, that has little to do with it. It all about the economy and availability of abortion and birth control.

We all know there are areas in our city that have high crime rates. We all know they are dominated by certain ethnic groups. The mayor is just doing his job, no need to call him a racist.

Except one of the proposals is to take away TAVIS. Not a good idea if you want to bust gangs and drugs.

I think getting rid of things that are below the need for a cop when a security guard will do make sense. I thing things like crossing guard supervision don't need a cop.

But I would rather see the existing levels maintained and get them out taking down organized crime. Let's reduce the crime rate further and continue to maintain the low amount.

Better than the alternative.
