Part of the issue will be how many other big UFA's are also on the market.
No one knows until the year is over how many will have signed, have bad year or are injured. It is a crap shoot, players are too influenced by agents who think of themselves, of course

Me, I want guarantee and if I can manage it without agent taking percentage

Costanza, the wheeler and dealer
I'm not sure how not wanting to make a piss poor trade makes me a wheeler and dealer?

Inaccurate, hated by some beloved by others. Bryce Harper thinks he is the best player in the majors. He's is also a member of the negotiating committee within the MLBPA. And without him the Jays as a unit would disintegrate.
Just some things I heard. And I wasn't refering to any of the Jays and how they feel about him. But many players thinks he whines too much about the strike zone and comes off as standoffish.
You are correct about that arrogant little prick in Washington. I think he wants to be a Yankee. Whether they or any team will pay the pay for the attitude that will go with it is another matter.

Gotta be the worst overturned call at home plate. Martin tagged him clearly.

Stroman struggling again but can't hand it over to the bullpen since that would be lost cause.

JB and Goins score on a SO pass ball with 2 outs. Good heads up running by JB to see the pitcher not covering.

We should be. I never bought all this ace talk with the guy. He's an excellent no.3/solid no.2 starter in my mind.

And if he weren't a Jay, I'd want to kick his ass for all the hot dogging he does.

It's not a diss to his present worth. But we are talking about projecting future worth of a 36-37 year old. And the wear and tear that will come with playing.

Simple fact is they can only sign one. So they are going to have to be harsh in their analysis of projected stats to come to a conclusion.

I find it absolutely amazing that so many teams are still willing to dole out the money for long term deals when you can see how bad they hand cuff your club. Even the mighty Yankees have come out and said they're gonna start being a lot more careful and fiscally responsible. After locking up Mark Texeira, CC Sabathia and A-roid, that's a lot of money on guys that aren't putting up very good numbers. (in Texeira case it's just this year but he missed almost all of 2013 due to injury)

The angels can't sign anybody thanks to Albert Pujols. Justin Verlander has screwed up the tigers payroll. Then you take a team like K.C with such a middle of the pack and much more payroll with much more flexability, and they win the whole thing.
Of all the armchair GM's, I think this is most inline with Shapiros thinking as evidenced by his time in Cleveland. I would say the contracts of Tulo and Martin (of paying big bucks to guys in the back half of their careers) are not in line with Shapiro's philosophy; I'd bet both will not finish their contracts in Toronto in 2020 and 2019.

If the Jays do not win this year, I would not be surprised if all of Tulo, Martin, Joey Bats and Edwing are gone and they re-build with younger guys that are more in line with Shapiro's strategy. Give young guys long-terms after 1 or 2 good years. Which is not dissimilar to what we did with JB and Edwing, but backfired with Romero.

Yup 5th series win. I can get used to this.
Osuna made it interesting but the Bosox have seen him a lot over the past few weeks. The best offence in Baseball will adjust given enough looks.

Happ and Floyd getting smacked around good, no offence doesn't help.
9-0 is also the score when a team forfeits a game. If you're going to lose, might as well lose big and write-off as a bad night.

I'm now watching the Stanley Cup finals. No more baseball to-night.

What a stinker tonight. Nothing working.
I'll focus most of my distain for Martin. 3 passed balls (actually 4 PB but the scorer was generous with a wild pitch). Hasn't thrown out a base runner in a month (after leading the league in putouts last year).
More than his slumping offence, the deterioration on defence is more concerning. Many ageing catchers convert to DH or 1B if they hit well enough but the Jays have a surplus of players who may play these positions as they age; JB, EE, Smoak, and whenever JD or Tulo get injured.
And he is due $75 mil over the next 4 years. What a mess.
