Just wondering if I should still keep eggs after the expire date...thoughts?
I do the smell test and the float test. Put the egg in water and if it floats right to the top it's not fresh.
Chicken eggs from local farms are much better than store bought eggs too.We only eat duck eggs which we get from a local farmer. Way better than chicken eggs.
So you would rather be wasteful than eat something that is still perfectly fine but doesn't taste 'perfect' in your opinion?I don't keep things beyond their date. Even if the food is not yet unsafe it begins to taste off.
Yes.So you would rather be wasteful than eat something that is still perfectly fine but doesn't taste 'perfect' in your opinion?
Pretty wasteful. But if I don't use it, I chuck it. I'm not going to eat bad tasting food just to save a few bucks or more likely cents.
Thanks....that site has good info!
It's a best before date, not bad after. Food doesn't suddenly turn the next day.I don't keep things beyond their date. Even if the food is not yet unsafe it begins to taste off.
That's stretching it a bit. :Eek:I had a bunch of eggs that were 9+ months old. I thought, how bad could they be? (Famous Last Words...)
Seriously. It's a best before date, not bad after. Food doesn't suddenly turn the next day.
Only if you stupidly buy stuff you are unlikely to use before its sell date. If you can't eat twelve eggs a week next time buy six.Pretty wasteful.
