Nostalgic movie addiction

Once again, instead of watching one of the many movies on my list of recommendations from friends, I am watching Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers for like the zillionth time. Why can't I help wanting to rewatch the same movies I've seen all my life? Is this a thing other people have? What movies/shows can you not stop rewatching over and over?

The Shawshank Redemption
Star Trek: First Contact (yeah, I'm a Trek geek, what of it?)
Pretty much any Bond movie, except the ones starring Timothy Dalton

Forgot about that one - another great movie that I've seen several times. :) I remember an old boyfriend didn't want to watch it with me because it was a "girly movie" but ended up getting really into it and by the end he was crying. lol

A few preceded my existence but a few classics (for me) that I can always watch again:

Drama:
12 Angry Men (original)
Casablanca
Maltese Falcon
Inherit the Wind
Shawshank Redemption
Goldfinger (for me - my favourite bond in his best movie)

Comedy:
Mad,Mad, Mad World
Abbot & Costello Meet Frankenstein
Dr Strangelove
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Airplane
Ghostbusters
Some Like It Hot
Any of the oldies with Jack Lemmon & Walter Matthau together from The Fortune Cookie and on.

If your a Robin Williams and Cuba Gooding Jr fan "What Dreams May Come" is quite riveting.

You listed 3 of my favourites. :) Also:

Forrest Gump

This is Spinal Tap (yes, it's true, lol)

The Green Mile

Dirty Dancing

And my all-time favourite that I've watched the most, The Shining
Wow! Same here! LOL do you actually keep count or is that your best guess? I don't blame you though, every time I watch the Shining I find out something new.

I have no idea how many times I've watched The Shining but it's been a LOT. Yes, every time you watch it, it seems like you see something you didn't notice before. Kubrick's best IMO.

In order

Django Unchained - DiCapiro does a great lead and everyone else follows. Movie starts with great conflict and never lets you go

2001 space odyssey -for its beauty and depth of symbolism

The Wizard of OZ - first colour movie, great story, characters and, of course, music

Silence of the Lambs - to watch Anthony Hopkins act (rare to have a follow up movie as good as the original)

Dances with Wolves - beauty and history

The Unforgiven - an unromantic depiction of the old west with a epic shootout in the end

can you explain how Ramius expected to get away with stealing the sub after he told Moscow what his intent was ?

Having a pretend nuclear accident then offloading the crew onto an American warship then pretending to scuttle the sub would have worked but not after he told Moscow

He got away with it by amazing luck that he could not have anticipated

The only series or movie I've been able to watch over and over again was the original Star Trek series when it was on reruns somewhere or other for about 35 years.
I must have watched every episode 10 times and each time I watched them it felt like I was watching them for the first time again. I don't know why that was.

I can only watch movies once every 5 years or so if I really really like them.
Quentin Tarantino can watch the same movie a thousand times if he likes it. He likes to study how they set up the scenes, how the movies go though transitions, and he likes to memorize dialogue that he likes.
My favorite movie of all time is Casino. It shows the world the way it really is and I watch it once every 3 years and enjoy every frame from start to finish.
