The West has inserted itself into a sectarian war that's been going on for centuries.... It's only Totalitarian regimes that keep it under control, this is why the MB was taken out in Egypt, this is why Lybia has descended into chaos after Gaddaffi....

This happen now in Brussels because the just arrested the Paris mastermind there. Tit for tat.
Totally agree with you, without US intervention in the guise of exporting Democracy which has been a disaster since Vietnam,
most of whats happening now wouldn't.

ISIS grew out of the dust of Saddam's army and the invasions and destruction of Iraq, Syria and these attacks are just another chapter in that folly.
Its a tragedy that civilians in Europe and civilians in the middle east are the victims of these actions.
Not really, it is because dear Hussein Obama withdrew troops from Iraq.

You have to blame Bush more for ISIS then Obama, it was the Bush war that destroyed Iraq then left Saddam's army unemployed.
Most of the withdrawal was underway before Obama.

Maybe Obama/Clinton are more to blame with Syria, though.

In any event, those interventions have been a major disaster.

Condolences to those in Brussels.
What a horrid act.

Here we go again.

It will be real interesting what our "Sunny Ways" Prime Minister has to say about this. Last time when it happened in Paris, he was underwhelming in every respect. I never thought I'd say that I miss Harper (and I don't), but we need a PM with a pair of stones and Justin is too worried about giving away the farm these days it seems to be concerned about the 5,000 pound gorilla (Islamo Fascism) in the room.

Trudeau really concerns me when it comes to national security. He's hugely weak in this area and now is not the time in history for a weak knee'd Prime Minister. It will be his undoing I suspect.

I'm with you here JtK, on what pretty boy is going to do.

Interesting but I think he is wrong about a few things. If you examine the life of Muhammad, terrorism became the core of this ideology.

Europeans had better get used to it. This is the new normal for the next century, or longer.

You would have a hard time explaining Boko Haram in Nigeria with that simplistic analysis, or Libya

So they attacked Belgium? Fuck your continual justifications of terror are pathetic.
I don't think Frankfooter is condoning it. Just explaining the root cause (as he sees it). However, I think terrorism goes beyond those past deeds (as Saddam said after the 9/11 attack).

Western 'Intervention' (and I assume you include Russia and China in the Western category) didn't create the Sunni/Shia conflict nor the many other sectarian hatreds. Those conflicts have (and would have) put a pressure on people to leave and with modern transportation we would still have millions of refugees. Add in the oil wealth allowed Saudi Arabia to spread their radical (ant-western) version of Islam and we would have essentially the same result even if the world powers were completely insular.

Explaining (a bullshit) root cause without showing even a hint of remorse is justification in my books.

Terrorism's root lies in people who think attacking civilians is an acceptable method of getting their way.
