Throughout its lifetime, an elephant goes through six sets of teeth. The elephant starves to death once the sixth set of teeth falls out. -

The question was True or false ? - very few elephants die of old age.

Gotta dispute your findings on this one, Ceiling.

Any elephant that starves to death, having used up six sets of teeth, must be regarded as "dying of old age". How else do you die of old age in the animal kingdom?

My guess is they had more calories. They would have needed them because they were working in the fields all day. I would guess their diet was not very varied and they ate little meat.

Previous generations had to do manual labor and needed more calories.

An elephant that has a dental problem or has used up all his sets of teeth regardless of age dies from starvation and not old age. An old elephant that has used up all his sets of teeth that can find suitable soft foods continue to live on.
