Very awkward indeed. You can almost see the tension in the two ladies when they're both on stage not knowing what to do next. I think the black dude, Steve Harvey, did alright by taking ownership of his mistake.

Honest, horrible mistake but it happened. And miss Colombia is backup anyway in case Miss Philippines can't fulfill her duties in any way (heaven forbid she mysteriously gets an "accident" from some Colombian extremist groups).

Maybe a compromise... Miss Philippines for the first six months, and Miss Colombia for the last half of the year?

Regardless, both girls are smoking hot and look like they'd be great in a duo. I'll make an offer when I win the Lotto Max $60 Mill this Friday. :wink:

First ... how the f*ck do you miss-read this card:


Second it was a stupid way to handle it. I would have lead Ms Columbia away from standing front and centre so her and Ms Philippines had their back to the audience and then explain the situation. Leaving Columbia by herself while making the announcement was stupid and unfair to both. Give them a moment then ask Ms Philippine to walk.

Harvey only compounded his mistake with an insensitive stupid recovery.

BTW: Both Ms Columbia and Ms Philippine are gorgeous... they would be my dream team in a menage a trois.

How sad. On the other hand, by the time the lawyers are finished she will certainly take first place for being the wealthiest of all contestants.

The publicity will make her better known than any other contestant. If she plays this right, takes the high road and has a top Hollywood agent ( which Harvey will be smart to obtain for her) she will likely have a better career ahead.

Harvey is know to be a kind person from a humble background. It will be interesting to see what he does over the next few weeks.

It looked staged. But of course it's all superficial so it's hard to tell the fake acting from fake fake acting.

Miss Iraq got death threats unless she joins Isis.

The first internationally recognised Miss Iraq beauty contest in more than 40 years was supposed to present a gentler, softer side to a country whose name has become synonymous with violence and bloodshed.

Instead, organisers are facing a backlash from religious hardliners and conservative tribal leaders who say such pageants are un-Islamic and threaten public morality.

At least two women have pulled out of the contest after receiving death threats. Organisers have dropped the swimsuit section of the competition and postponed the televised finale in an attempt to deflect some of the criticism.

However, the organisers and most contestants, backed by many members of the public, remain determined to press ahead with an event they see as a step towards normality in a society still deeply divided 12 years after the US-led overthrow of Saddam Hussein.

“There are many indications that Iraq is finished, but such contests give hope that life in Iraq goes on,” said Senan Kamel, the pageant’s spokesman and one of its judges.

Kamel said organisers had tried to tone down or adapt aspects of the contest out of respect for the taboos and sensibilities of a conservative Muslim country that frowns on the public display of women’s bodies.

Mark Shapiro a corporate head of IMG (who owns it) was on Jim Rome yesterday. (Long term associates)

Basically they had 1 minute 45 seconds to fix the error, because the show was cutting out to news. Legal on site quickly advised to fix the problem now rather than by next day news conference. They basically had to tell Harvey to get out there and do an ad lib explanation and said you have les than 2 minutes to do it.

They didn't have much time to think how to fix it or time to do it properly. They couldn't give each a moment to do it gracefully do to time issues. The signal was getting cut.

The cynic in me wonders if it wasn't staged. There has been more attention paid to this pageant in the last two days, than in the past twenty years. You know the old show biz saying "there is no such thing as bad publicity."
Probably not, but in a way, it is very convenient.

Good job by Steve Harvey. If not for him, there'd be basically no one who had any clue that there had been a Ms Universe pageant last week. The next one is going to get a bunch of free publicity as well.

That man deserves a raise.
