Do you have any shots of the old brick works? This old abandoned brick factory was a great place to get amazing shots until they restored it into an attraction. I can't find my old brickwork shots, have go through my backup DVDs.
I'll have to go through my older stuff and see if I can find mine. Used to love going there to shoot while it was still abandoned.

For today though another long exposure using an ND filter up in Algonquin Park.

I heard that one can rent photo studios on an hourly basis with all the fancy lights and stuff. Is this true?

Yes, there are studios where you can also rent lights, backdrops, etc. Can rent cameras and equipment at Vistek.

Having access to fancy lights is one thing, knowing how to use them is another. Fancy lights have many buttons and options to figure out.

Do these studios also offer professional help or are you on your own?

I notice there are little studios at Wal-Mart for family portraits but they do all the work for a fee.

Think the equipment rental is more for people who already have the strobe lights, but need extra lights for some reason. Some studios might help set up the lights for you, and set the power, location, etc. But would be easier for them to just take the picture for you. The bigger strobe lights plug into a power pack, and are not something you can just pick up and use unless you have used them before.

Have seen studios that offer strobe lighting courses, and have models to take pictures of.

Yes there are studios that offer lighting workshops. But if you look on youtube there are videos that can explain studio lighting. But I recommend that you study and understand exposure, first step to understanding lighting.

I use umbrellas with white light. If you set them up right they can also produce even light just like you see in the second picture. The first picture would look very boring without the shadows in my opinion.

Not a huge fan of umbrellas. Often used by beginners to learn lighting. Out grown them, moved on to something more advanced. Photography can cost you $$$$$ because you always want to improve on something and that means buying new gear.

Query: How can one tell when a photo is a fake? I see photos on the net that are probably bogus but can't be sure.
