Your impression of the sort of "wealth" it takes to pay a road toll is hilarious.
Actually, I'm talking your need to remind everyone that you can afford to pay the toll while the everyone else can be stuck in the regular lanes and your mentality that if people that want to use the toll lane can just work harder. Does it feel good to be a 'big man' while throwing shit in their face?

When someone disagrees with you, the only point you have is that they must be communists. Unless you grew up under real communist regime, you have no right to compare Canada to it.

My issue with these toll lanes is that public money is going to be spent building out the lanes, enforcement and installing electronic monitoring systems. Since you can afford to pay for tolls, how about you pay for all of that?

To each according to his need to drive, from each according to his ability to pay income tax to the province, is communism. Pay for your road use by the kilometer with a toll.

We could simply raise the gas tax but a HOT lane allows selectively charging more to those who are willing to pay extra for a higher level of service
'To each according to his need to drive, from each according to his ability to pay income tax to the province, is communism'. You know that is absolute lunacy don't you ... or in your mind should you to come to my paid driveway - toss a few quarters on it, then tell me to move my car because it's communism to refuse anyone willing to put more money on a paid roadway ?

I paid for the highway through my taxes - why the f*ck would I pay more or let some little rich shits reduce my service because they don't mind paying again if they can shit on other motorist as a result.

How about all the other tax paid roadways. I hope you are not a communist driving under the same rules as every other tax paying shmuck on the road.

I don't expect to be billed twice for it.

No I do not think electricity should be free. Why would you come to such a stupid conclusion?

Public money should be spent on projects that benefit the public, aka everyone. I'm opposed to using tax money to build services that only benefit those that can afford to pay, which is exactly what we did for the 407 and what we're going to do again with these toll lanes.

You want a faster way to get to work, get your rich friends and build your own highway.

Not everyone drives, but everyone uses electricity. Yet you are OK with charging for the public resource everyone uses and you want the highway used by only some to be free.

Worse, you want to stop me from getting faster access on a HOT lane and get stuck in traffic jams with the cheapos who won't pay their way.

Interesting thought . What makes you think that you're going to get a permit ? Only a 1,000 permits to start off with . With the thousands of drivers in Ontario that use the highways what if thousands apply for a permit . Maybe a fellow only uses his permit a few times in the year but he wants to flash his lights at the cheapos as you call them . Now wouldn't that be interesting if a guy who has all kinds of money to burn uses those highways every day but can't get a permit because of a guy like that .

Having all kinds of money in your pocket will not guarantee you a permit . You may be one of those that will have to crawl in traffic because someone like me got a permit . Now wouldn't that be funny .

If I do get a permit I'd be willing to sell you mine . It will cost you big time . That , Sunshine is called Capitalism . LOL

Money talks . It says good bye fugi and hello John Henry . LOL

Ideally tolls will adjust to a level where supply meets demand once they get beyond pilot program phase.

So what you're saying is taxes should pay for infrastructure, but we should pay fees for the resource? Kind of like how taxes (not tolls) should pay for highways, but we pay for gas and vehicle?

Earlier I said that tolls should be put in for all drivers using the highway not just people who like to play rich like you. Sorry, but I never said that I want the highway used by only some to be free. I know reading is hard, but kindly re-read what what's been said and then you'll hopefully understand.

Yeah, I do want to stop people like you that like to play the rich asshole role since you expect the cheapo commies to pay for the construction of your toll lane. Then you have the gall (actually stupidity) to throw shit in our faces saying that we should just work harder to pay a toll to use that same lane.

Sure, so applying that particular idea to highways, taxes would be used to build them and tolls would be used to maintain.

Buy you are still using supply side somewhat communist thinking. The real problem is that the highways are congested and we need a mechanism to decide who gets priority access to the scarce resource. Price does that better than any other mechanism.

I agree with putting tolls on all highways for all drivers. I think those who argue only some lanes should have tolls believe that there should be a slow lane available for free for the poor. Like some sort of charity I guess.

Presumably if you are on terb you can afford the toll...

Interesting how you do an about face on this issue since you've been consistently banging the capitalist drum that anyone that wants to use the toll lane can pay for it and everyone else can fume in the regular lanes.

Just because someone is on terb it does not mean they can afford or want to pay a toll. Sorry, that doesn't make them communists or cheapos as you like to put it. Not everyone on this site may participate in the hobby either. Your assumption about the people on this site has nothing to do with reality. You have no idea about any terb members socioeconomic status.

How much do you think it costs to gain access to terb? Let me break it down for you: $0 monthly fee for access to the site, $0 monthly fee for an e-mail account to initially get access to the site. Internet access and a computer certainly cost money, but you can access these for free or cheap e.g. Internet cafes, libraries, or even a friend's computer assuming they don't block access. The point is, accessing terb is not difficult nor expensive compared to tolls.

I would think it makes more sense to toll everyone since it spreads the cost over a bigger pool of drivers. When you have a small pool of drivers, you naturally have to charge them more to make it worth while.

My assumption is that if you have the free cash to purchase the services discussed here you have the cash to pay a toll.

And I am OK with being charged more to access the fast lane. I am also ok with tolls for all if those are high enough to keep enough cars off the highway that it operates at high speed.

Because you're a communist. People who believe in market economies believe that price is an effective mechanism to match demand to supply.
So a small portion of my beliefs, specifically regarding essential government services, is communist thinking, so I am a communist. Being that you are a capitalist, you must hate the fact that Canada has universal healthcare, huh?

You don't believe in using prices to match supply and demand. Enough said.

I have agreed up thread that life critical services such as health, police, fire are exceptional. But there is nothing exceptional about roads: pay your way.
