I am trying to find out what works for downloading YouTube videos. I know they recently blocked the downloading, however there are probably work arounds. Not sure what method works, and is stable.

Much appreciated...

There's a whole bunch of YouTube Downloader extensions for Firefox which add a download button to the YouTube site. They used to work on Chrome, but I guess Google has been cracking down on them for obvious reasons. A lot of these extensions get shut down from time to time.

I download Crossfit workouts and stuff from YouTube using this

http://www.clipconverter.cc

Free, easy and gives you options to save from small, to HD.
> Paste URL from YouTube
> Conversion Format: I convert to AVI
> Above Conversion Format, to the right of URL , press continue.
> When detection done, hit "Start"
(Its will now record and convert)
> When done, press Download. (Sometimes an annoying pop-up will come up/ close and hit download again)
> Now a screen at the bottom will come up with save, I just hit 'save as' to desktop and done.

Whole thing takes 2-3 min a video and you can do this to monster 1hr videos on YouTube even.
Exactly what I use. Such a smart girl K.

Why do you choose AVI and not MP4 or MOV? My Sony Blu-Ray player cannot play AVI.

P.S. I think AVI is a very old format and modern devices cannot open the file. (I have no clue what I just said.)

Just personal preference I guess. But you're right, MP4 is probably the way to go as it tends to be more user friendly to mobile.
I find MP4 and AVI just a trade off on clarity. As for MOV, I've never used that.

As for the Blu-Ray player not playing AVI, that's odd. Normally any torrents I grab are MP4. But have had some AVIs, and convert either to DVD with ConvertXtoDVD and never a playback issue on the Sony DVD player.
Over the years I've had cameras that shoot AVI, MOV and MP4. My older AVI's won't play on my Sony Blu-Ray player. Also, I'm trying to find out if there is a way (probably not) to upgrade my old 640x480 AVI videos to 720p or 1080p. I notice now that a lot of the newer Youtube videos are 720p or 1080p.

BTW: The worse format is the flv.

I tried to find a couple of Youtube videos I saw about 6 months ago. They are nowhere to be found.

Question: How do I find older videos? Is there an archive somewhere of old videos?
