This new Tesla autopilot is totally wack in a good way. I never imagined this kind of technology is already here and it fucking learns and gets better :Eek:

The more I think about this company the more I am impressed and starting to respect how much thought and innovation this guy is putting into this company... they are definitely ahead of their time and bringing the future here faster...

If I had the extra cash I would definitely buy this car as a 2nd option....

Mind = blown...I wonder if this will affect our driving skills in the long term if we start relying on this type of technology. Will it make us worse drivers...I can see this being useful in rush hour congestion on highwy and optimizing the flow and helping with traffic congestion, however people may start becoming lazy.


Anybody know where is the best place to rent the P90D performance version for a day in Tdot area? I feel silly booking a test drive and knowing I will not get it. I would drop $400-600 per day to experience 0-60 in 2.8 sec and this autopilot.

What's more impressive is that this is the next major technological revolution after the iPhone. Yes its been around, this technology, however this is the first time somebody is championing this technology and making it take off on a massive scale and done well like with iPhone and not so good smartphone out b4 iphone like that Microsoft version. Google, BMW and others just fell right behind and they know it and are playing catch up now. Tesla just hit a homerun with this proof of concept on such a massive scale in liue of all the liability nonsense with this kind of hands free driving. Next step is recognizing stop signs and traffic signals which tesla claims is coming in a future update. Imagine one day roads without traffic lights, this is the first real proof of concept step to enable this. The connected vehicle concept has been around for a while now with billions being pumped into R&D, with only incremental gains.

This will change our lives. Fuck this guy is a genius. I was late to jump on the iPhone/smartphone boat I thought apple, hippie blah blah...

But what this guy will do is change everything from this technology to using this technology to power our homes efficiently, save us money, improved traffic management, less congestion, less stress driving home...fuck me, but Tesla is the next big thing.

Old fashion or not, never forget that since the involvement of fly by wire in commercial jets, disasters haven fallen 10 fold. Most disasters in the past were due from pilot error. Look it up.
This drive by wire makes sense !

But hopefully, some people who are notorious for being bad drivers, will buy these cars and keep their hands in their pockets.

Looks like fully autonomous driving is 5-6 years away per Elon. This will revolutionize the tucking industry alone....let alone improve congestion because trucks are the biggest factor in addition to our bad driving habits. Imagine all cars taking off at the same time when the light changes to green and how much this will improve things, in addition to better driving/improved flows during congestion...

The current approach is to rely on sensors (like animals do), what computers are really good at is networks and data analysis, when we move beyond replicating the human driver to optimizing the autonomous vehicle this will really take off.

Actually threre is an override to this, the pilot cannot take over the plane until the computer system has no clue or failed. This has been on commercial flights for a long time.
And this is why disasters have been minimal.

Yes, planes can fly without the pilot doing anything. But there are not that many commercial planes flying right beside each other that you can actually see them 50 ft away. Are you going to fly on an airline with dozens of other planes criss-crossing each other in the sky? Not me. I also doubt that any of the pilots in an airshow will allow the autopilot to do everything especially if they are flying tip to tip. And this I don't know, so one of us Terbites who actually know the answer might correct me.

And you have to eventually look at the insurance and liability issue. In an accident with the car on autopilot, with the driver not touching the wheel, who is liable? Is it Tesla? I am sure they don't want the liability. What about the driver? Is he or she responsible? Is it the government? They licenced the car for use on the road. Look at car companies that have issued recalls and with defects. Audi had a problem with drivers who swore they put their foot on the brake and were likely accelerating. Airbag problems caused car companies to pay out. Do you really think they will pay out for the autopilot getting into an accident? Which software engineer will put his name down if these things start to re-boot at 120kph or have a hard drive/flash drive/whatever failure on the 401 in traffic and cause the biggest traffic pileup in history.

And most importantly, if nobody is speeding, what will the cops, lawyers, courts, government, do? Revenue will drop. Cops will be unemployed. No tow trucks on the highways. Etc.

I think this is a very important point and what stagnates innovation and progression. I think people fear this change and do what it takes to protect their version of reality. I think what Elon is doing is undermining a lot of people and companies with such biased limitations. I think Elons approach will make this world better. It will definitely and is already starting to uproot a lot of deeply rooted people through the scess of his companies and his visions. People are also scared of this because they do not have his visions and are afraid of stepping outside their box of limitations.

The more I think about this guy the more respect I have for who he is, what he stands for, and how much change he will bring upon us for the better. IMO this guy is more significant the Steve Jobs and in the ranks of people like Albert Einstein, Nikola Tesla, etc...
