Of course if nature's gonna go unstoppably nuts everu=y so often that's all the more reason us smart and sensible folks should get our act together, not the opposite. But of course that's for smart and sensible people to do, not those who crow about big bad polluting volcanoes being worse than us.

Volcanoes tend to temporarily cool the planet by spewing massive amounts of ash and crap into the atmosphere.

Which makes you wonder how much hotter this year would be without that volcano.

I do agree that we should curb, the use of fossil fuels, I'm just not convinced we play a big roll
in global warming. I see it more as a bunch of politicians, getting on the gravy train.

How is it that you think politicians are getting rich by working against climate change?
You think that the solar/wind lobbyists are going to give them half of what the fossil fuel does in donations?

By collecting carbon taxes and implementing cap and trade. It's been an abysmal failure all over Europe, no reduction in GHG but soaring energy bills for the public while governments collect.

Ask Al Gore and our own Former Mayor Millar. Both are doing just fine by Eco-Economics.

Right, so you think that politicians personally profit from taxes?
But only green taxes?
That's a lame theory.

Gore isn't a politician anymore and hasn't been one for over a decade.
And claiming that David Miller became mayor to make money in green economics is beyond silly.

Claiming they backed climate change programs while in office to make money after they got out of politics is also beyond silly.

Actually it isn't silly. No different then politicians in economic portfolios who move on the the business sector or Laywers who get partnerships after time in Ottawa.

Millar did use the office to further the agenda and attend several eco-conferences for networking purposes. He then parlayed that into a plum university position in the USA.

As for Al Gore his track record speaks for itself.

OMG!

Miller got a university job, what a devious cunt!
Imagine that, trying to trick the city into backing green programs all as devious plan to get him a job in a university.

Sorry, butler, that theory is getting sillier every post.

No its not. No different then anyone who becomes a corporate shill or lobbyist and sits on a board after the fact.

In the case of Millar he proves the old axiom of those who can do, those who can't teach.

Every politician has an exit strategy. Millar chose this one. Gore chose the speaking circuit and several eco business partnerships. Even Suzuki is making a killing jet setting and speaking.

I don't blame them. But I'm not naive and ascribe altruistic motives to them either.

No, its quite different.

If you are accusing them of pushing policies that put money in their pockets.
That is quite different from someone landing a university job after years in office, that happens quite regularly and from both sides.

Would you accuse Kim Campbell of the same thing?

Why is Miller corrupt over this but not Campbell?

Why do volcanos when they dump crap into the atmosphere LOWER the temperature of the earth but when man dumps the same crap into the atmosphere it INCREASES the temperature of the earth?

Ash and sulphur dioxide, but mostly sulphur dioxide and its effects.

Ash doesn't stay in the atmosphere long but sulphur gets blasted pretty high and can effect the climate for up to 1 or 2 years.

Observational and modelling studies (e.g. Kelly & Sear, 1984; Sear et al., 1987) of the likely effect of recent volcanic eruptions suggest that an individual eruption may cause a global cooling of up to 0.3°C, with the effects lasting 1 to 2 years. Such a cooling event has been observed in the global temperature record in the aftermath of the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in June 1991. The climate forcing associated with individual eruptions is, however, relatively short-lived compared to the time needed to influence the heat storage of the oceans (Henderson-Sellers & Robinson, 1986). The temperature anomaly due to a single volcanic event is thus unlikely to persist or lead, through feedback effects, to significant long-term climatic changes.
http://www.global-climate-change.org.uk/2-6-3.php

The most significant climate impacts from volcanic injections into the stratosphere come from the conversion of sulfur dioxide to sulfuric acid, which condenses rapidly in the stratosphere to form fine sulfate aerosols. The aerosols increase the reflection of radiation from the Sun back into space, cooling the Earth's lower atmosphere or troposphere. Several eruptions during the past century have caused a decline in the average temperature at the Earth's surface of up to half a degree (Fahrenheit scale) for periods of one to three years. The climactic eruption of Mount Pinatubo on June 15, 1991, was one of the largest eruptions of the twentieth century and injected a 20-million ton (metric scale) sulfur dioxide cloud into the stratosphere at an altitude of more than 20 miles. The Pinatubo cloud was the largest sulfur dioxide cloud ever observed in the stratosphere since the beginning of such observations by satellites in 1978. It caused what is believed to be the largest aerosol disturbance of the stratosphere in the twentieth century, though probably smaller than the disturbances from eruptions of Krakatau in 1883 and Tambora in 1815. Consequently, it was a standout in its climate impact and cooled the Earth's surface for three years following the eruption, by as much as 1.3 degrees at the height of the impact. Sulfur dioxide from the large 1783-1784 Laki fissure eruption in Iceland caused regional cooling of Europe and North America by similar amounts for similar periods of time.

Like I said. Exit plan. Honestly how she can head up a Leadership course is beyond me.

As for Millar he spent taxpayer dollars to attend the conferences that really accomplished nothing. So yes I can say with certainty that he stole money to achieve his position after.

You really are getting more and more ridiculous with every claim.

Now you claim that Miller stole money from the city in order use the office of mayor of Toronto in his devious and underhanded plan to land a university job.
But that Kim Campbell earned her post political university job.

Have you ever listened to yourself?

Where did I say that Campbell deserved her position? In fact I wondered aloud what qualified her.

As for Millar he took several trips at taxpayer expense to various eco conferences around the world. He touted himself as a green mayor but really did nothing to make the city greener. I few things like sodding roofs failed.

And as soon as he retired he gets a job at a US university. How naive are you to think it wasn't about networking. How naive are you to think he didn't have an exit strategy. Just like Campbell and all the other politicians.

The only Green Millar was truly after was the folding kind.

Perhaps you would care to supply us with what he has done since for this city to make it more eco friendly? To raise awareness in the city who paid his way. If he cared so much why leave? Easy.

For the money.

Transit city.

Miller had a fully funded transit plan in place before crackhead Ford came in and killed it.
Are you now trying to claim it was all a scam in order for him to get himself a US university job?

Your story gets worse and worse each post.
Keep it up, its very entertaining.

Transit city? Killed? Most of it is going through first of all. So far just the scarborough LRT was killed.

And judging from the performance of Bombardier in getting the new Streetcars on the road (5 years behind) I'd say he did a poor deal and didn't keep on it.

And really if you think more streetcars on new routes are going to make a vast difference when the city is gaining 100,000 new people per year then you need to give your head a shake.

Most of what he did was talk. And fly out to more talks. Then talk about the talks.

Transit city? That's the best you have? Thanks for proving my point.
