Hero SAS sniper saves father and eight-year-old son from being beheaded by ISIS maniac

The brave British marksman saved the terrified eight-year-old and his father after taking out the crazed jihadi with a head shot from 1,000 metres away.

The special forces crack shot then killed two other members of the hated terror group, who were also taking part in the sick planned execution.

ISIS militants had decreed that the little boy and his father must die after branding them "infidels" because they refused to denounce their faith.

They were just seconds from death when the hero sniper intervened to stop the barbaric killing in the Syrian desert. The pair were part of the minority Shia sect of Islam which ISIS considers to be heretical.

They were saved from a cruel and painful death at the hands of the fanatics after an Iraqi spy tipped off British special forces to the planned execution.

Special forces troops who arrived at the killing site, where ISIS was carrying out a series of rigged 'trials' of locals, discovered a gruesome scene with several headless bodies already lying bloodied on the desert floor.

The dramatic rescue operation took place last month near the Syrian border with Turkey, where an elite SAS unit had been conducting covert patrols.

Defence sources described how the SAS unit moved into a position just outside a village where ISIS members were holding the 'trial' in front of a crowd of locals who had been forced to attend at gunpoint.

Brits do not use 50 cal sniper rifles typically. They typically use the ones made by Accuracy International that are .338 and insanely accurate. The article says they used a 50 in this case, but I wonder if it is correct. the AI rifles would be much more discreet and easier to transport. If the guy was shot in the head with a 50 cal, he would not just collapse, but everyone around him would be covered in his brains. Some of the missions the SAS have conducted are just amazing. Just legendary.

Ok. But honestly, if there was ever an invasion force of ISIL fighters travelling in a remote desert area, I would like to see how effective the neutron bomb would work on them. Unlikely that they would expose themselves like sitting ducks, being the cowards (or smart militants?) they are.

Also, no one uses a "silenced" 50 caliber. 50's have muzzle velocities nearly 2.5 times the speed of sound. The rounds remain supersonic well past 1,000 m, some rounds up to 1,600 m. They are impossible to silence. There is a very loud crack as the bullet passes by you breaking the sound barrier. If it hits you, you will never hear it coming. One wonders if this article was properly researched.

The 50's used by the Brits are made by Accuracy international, and they are no doubt fitted with silencers. (google is your friend)

Actually the Russians used a 12.7 mm silenced sniper rifle. The rounds are subsonic. But being hit by a round like that going at 700 mph the results are pretty academic. It will slice you in half:

You don't really need that stuff any more. They can use themobaric weapons and not have the residual radiation issues.
