Anybody have any suggestions on the best device to measure how many calories you burn throughout the day while going about and especially during work outs such as a fitness tracking watch with GPS, altimeter and heart monitor.

I have been using a smart band but find its very unreliable and basic. For example today I moved 20 kilometers with two walks, a run and 20 mins of polymeric workout and burned 4,500 calories which equals about 23,000 steps.

Last week I did 20.5 km, with a walk, ultimate frisbee and a run and burned approximately 6,200 calories and had 26,000 steps.

My device does not measure heart rate and has an app where you log workout type, intensity, duration and estimates calories burned.

I need something more reliable and that actually measures my progress vs. mostly estimates.

My aim for my fitness is to burn over 6,000 2-3 times a week and over 4,000 for at least 5-6 days a week.

How you guys/gals keep track? I find it helps with my progression and improving my fitness and trying to maintain my goals and push my self harder every week to keep count and establish some sort of baseline.

Any constructive advice on this is appreciated.

fitbit surge.

https://www.fitbit.com/ca/surge

I think there is one called fitbit surge +
I looked into this one at depth.

This uses the optical HR sensor so you probably need an accessories and it's not great for swimming, GPS is not good, and does not do a good job keeping track of workouts. If you use it while working out your heart rate will be off and the app is not the best.

I almost got it but decided against it when compared to a Garmin fenix 3. Thx for the rec.

In my experience, the best thing is the mirror. If you are not looking leaner and more muscular, then whatever you are doing is not working.

It's not about loosing weight, its about getting fit and bettering yourself and taking your performance to a different level, and getting yourself in shape to compete on events such as triathlons.

If you're attempting to lose weight, like I've been doing, you need this vital piece of cookery in your kitchen: a bamboo steamer.

Eat, sleep, shit, fuck, and exercise. Throw away those stupid devices. You are making this way more complicated than it needs to be.

Average sounds kinda lame and boring... don't you wanna fuck harder, jump higher and hit her spot better and make her remember your name after you leave.

Don't know about you but I choose not to be just average.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Apple Watch yet. It separates active versus rest calories too. Unfortunately, it's not recommended for swimming (although there seem to be accounts on the internet that suggest that they tested the watch for swimming and did not find any problems). From your requirements list, the Watch doesn't have an altimeter.

There is such a bad stigma associated with the apple watch, apple fan boyism, that I would not dare wear it even if it was decent for my purpose. I would have a negative opinion if I saw somebody wearing it like they are trying to be cool, show off etc.... I have both android and iPhone, but just could never get myself to support Apple Watch.

I am about 99% set on the Garmin fenix 3 but it looks like there are some user and software issues.

I was looking at the Garmin Fenix 3 as well, but just on the internet and haven't physically tried it. Be interested in hearing your real life experience with it if you get it.

As for the Apple Watch, I wear one because I find it useful, apart from just the fitness tracking. Cool or not to others, that doesn't affect my usage.

I've had a LifeTrak 300 and am very pleased with the calorie counting. You have to press a button to take heart rate, but when you do that regularly you get a decent calculation of metabolic rate and calorie count.
