The US Coast Guard attempted to train pigeons to find people lost at sea by strapping them into a bubble under an aircraft. When the pigeon saw objects in the ocean that may be a man overboard the bird would tap on a switch to alert the crew. The project was cancelled as the results of the experiment was inconclusive.

The first roller coaster was not intended as a thrill ride, it was a coal carrier made to carry coal from a high cliff down to the ocean so that a ship can export the coal to other countries. It was a straight ride down and had no loops or curves.
