I am interested in hearing your suggestions for a bottle of nice wine... not a nice bottle of wine because I don't give a damn for how nice the bottle is... :D

Over the years I have tried many different wines but I don't think my own list exceeds 100 different wines and there are thousands of others out there that I haven't even thought of...

So let us say: white or red (I am partial to Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs); price range $18-30; available in Ontario... and tell us what you like about your choice/s.

Let me begin by suggesting one of my own current favorites: Maycas de Limarí Quebrada Seca; Chilean Chardonnay; $30; full body, dry, well oaked and very succulent that I love with oily fish such as sea bass and salmon... interesting side note, it comes from a valley in Chile that was cultivated by the Incas...

I am really looking for wines that I can try not just talk about...

The LCBO has wine tasting events. Vintages has on July 17-19, 2015, the ic4, the International Cool Climate Chardonnay Celebration, "CoolChardonnay.org".

Snake and Scorpion wine is worth a try. Presumably
the venom is transformed by the ethanol in the wine to
some medicinal substance.

Perry I see you are definitely a Burgundy fan. I have to admit I am partially to the main Bordeaux grapes. Cabernet, Merlot and Malbec (although generally a minor grape in Bordeaux has been well developed in Argentina) as well as Tempranillo from Spain but I wouldn't say no to a good Pinot or Chardonnay. I also enjoy drinking Italian wine with Italian food, the acidity in these wines really complement the food. I believe one of the most underrated regions of Italy is the Nero D'Avola from Sicily. They tend to be rich and full-bodied. There are some wonderful deals at the LCBO currently and I have been buying quite a few Spanish wines. One of my current favourites is Tres Picos for around $20. Rich, very flavourful and easy drinking. Just released but I haven't tasted yet is the 2013 Sophenia Cabernet Sauvignon from Argentina for $17.95 which has rave reviews. If interested I do occasionally recommend wines on my twitter account. Cheers and good luck. Remember life is too short to drink bad wines.

I love Italian reds and California reds and white.

I agree with all of your choices bankerboy. Also if you ever come across the Luigi Righetti Ripasso in a restaurant it is delicious (not so much his regular Valpolicella). Also if you ever come across the Petite Sirah from McManis it is delicious (Not their Syrah though which is just ok IMO). I don't believe the LCBO has any but I do know the Keg currently has it on their menu.

It is not my opinion on this wine, it is a wine drinkers opinion. At that price, what do you really have to loose. Unless your price range is in the box wine range.( In fact, I did not even know it was so inexpensive till I looked it up )

Perry, I am currently drinking a very delicious Spanish red, the 2012 Montebuena from Rioja which is a bargain at $15.95 as I am surfing on terb. I am very impressed with it, soft tannins, full of fruit with a lingering aftertaste. I would recommend buying a few bottles. It won't last in the LCBO. Cheers

For years I drank primarily Cabs because it was supposed to be the best... and if you are prepared to spend $200-300 or more on a bottle of a premier grand cru chateau, it still probably still is.

But there are a lot of great wines that are much better value... though I will never refuse a glass of Chateau Lafite or Margaux.

Two of the most memorable wines I have had the privilege to taste was the 1929 Chateau Latour and the 1947 Chateau Cheval Blanc. The top Bordeaux are as good as sex but cost a hell of a lot more now.

I made a mistake, it was actually the Santa Carolina Reserva Cabernet-Sauvignon 2012
The bottle I had was purchased in Quebec. I have had other products from Sana Carolina I enjoyed all of them especially the white

For what it is worth


As someone who is on a diet and desires the many health benefits of red wine, I drink skinny grape

only 4 carbs per bottle and low alcohol

I add black pepper to give it some zing

I am not so sure about that!

A top girl will cost about $400 for an hour.

For about $400 I can have a very good bottle of Chambertin and if I am a hog about it, a bottle will last me a full evening! :biggrin1:

Of course, a bottle of vintage Lafite or Latour today will cost about as much as a weekend with ClaudiaX...

But I agree that a great wine and a great lady are about equally as enjoyable!

The best Perry is when you can do both. It doesn't get any better. I have been lucky to have both with Sps who enjoy fine wines.
