Rather than arguing about whether and where I've traveled outside the U.S. and Canada.

May I merely suggest to LexiRose that you get a couple of the "better" (personal opinion) guide books for instance Baedekers and Lonely Planet

http://www.amazon.ca/Dubai-Baedeker...31033944&sr=8-2&keywords=Dubai+Baedeker+Guide

And depending upon when you are going

http://www.amazon.ca/Lonely-Planet-...431034174&sr=1-1&keywords=dubai+lonely+planet

(not being published until October)

If before that perhaps Frommer's (although it is by now five years old) http://www.amazon.ca/Frommers-Dubai...31034592&sr=8-1&keywords=frommers+guide+dubai

Lonely Planet? Fromners?

Very Rick Steevesey of you Aardy but Seems like she is going with "a client". And Dubai is not a "Lonely Planet"kind of place.

Anyone who takes an SP to Dubai has to know enough to realize that it is going to be MEGA expensive and their trip will consist almost solely of shopping and fucking in the hotel!

No guide needed for that... trust me!

Oh and Miss Lexi.... The only advice regarding safety that I can offer is:

1. Make ABSOLUTELY certain you do not have ANY sort of trace of ANY illicit drug near or on any of your belongings. If there is one thing the relatively tolerant Rulers are absolutely intolerant of is drugs of any kind. They have dogs that sniff you, your purse, your luggage etc. If you have a purse that you once carried any weed in, don't take that purse. The dogs will flag you and a single seed can cause you to be jailed and you will be shit out of luck. Read the story of Canadian UN worker Bert Tatham

Here is something he wrote after being released. http://sandylittlecountries.blogspot.ca/2008/02/message-from-bert-tatham.html

2. Be aware that human trafficking if sex workers is a well known practice in Dubai. Many sex workers, and unsuspecting women are brought to Dubai with a false promise of a vacation and once in the country become forced commercial sex slaves. So be wary of whomever is taking you and ensure that you really know that they are who they say they are and you can trace them to a legitimate profession or business locally. These predators are known to contact sex workers online through their websites and promise them a luxury holiday in Dubai and will send you the plane ticket and reserve you a room in a hotel etc. Know that if you get involved with the wrong people that your passport will be held/taken and they will tell you that no one will listen to a homer and the Canadian government will not help prostitutes who left to go to Dubai for sex work and that the Dubai system will incarcerate them in the horrid Dubai prison system (see Bert Tatham's blog entry above).

They won't be lying.... be careful.
