The new green bins have a capacity of 100 litres (that sounds pretty heavy). How will people who keep their green bins on the porch get them down to street level? Currently, I know some people who use two of the smaller green bins for their organics (easier to move two small ones than one huge ones). Questions:

1) Will the humongous new green bins be mandatory in 2017? Or, is there still an option to use the smaller ones?

2) Will we be forced to surrender the older green bins? Any compensation?

3) Will the humongous new green bins be free?

They will become mandatory- the new bins can be picked up by the mechanical arms- so the city wants to do that to make picking up more efficient and reduce worker injuries.

You can keep the old bins I believe but not use them for garbage pick up. The original green bins were free (paid through garbage levy) so not sure why you would be compensated.

The new bins will be free- again paid through garbage levy
