One of the things he says is that this is one of the things that cause urinary tract infections. Makes sense when it comes to DATY.

[h=2]Microbiologist tests beards for germs[/h]
A handful of brave men allowed Action 7 News to swab their beards, and the results showed some beards are as dirty as toilets.
Quest Diagnostics microbiologist John Golobic tested the swabs, and the results blew his mind.
“I'm usually not surprised and I was surprised by this,” Golobic said.
Several of the beards that were tested contained a lot of normal bacteria, but some were comparable to toilets.
“Those are the types of things you'd find in (fecal matter),” Golobic said, referring to the tests.
Did they test bears?

If you wash (shampoo) your beard why on earth should it be any more filled with nasty bacteria than any other part of your body?
A stunning array of things that we all handle every day are already coated in microscopic traces of fecal matter including the hands and faces of others, and their delicate parts that everyone likes to go down on. This isn't something to really worry about unless you're in an operating theatre. You should be more worried about the fact that very few people know how to properly wash their hands. Most people aren't really fussed about having properly cleaned produce either (esp. important when being served raw) nor will they go to any great length to have sanitized food prep surfaces and avoid cross-contamination.

Great point . Ever notice when you go to any restaurant majority of the people just come from outside , they take a seat , they order food but they forget to wash their hands. It's rare to see a person go wash their hands at the restaurant before eating.

I wash my hands between the time I order and when my food arrives. Always!

I am sure you do and so am I but next time when you go to a restaurant or even coffee shop look around you and you will see that majority of the people don't wash their hands before eating. Beards are the last thing we should be worried about.

Never mind beards... imagine what's lurking around in pubic hair!

Yet another reason why:

First, the "study" from the original post has already been completely discredited.

And that's aside from their misleading conclusions: "as dirty as toilets" - no, just because some of the same germs might live on your face as on your bum does not mean a beard is as dirty as a toilet. And, "stuff you'd find in faecal matter" - there's a wide variety of bacteria and germs in such matter, some of which are also found outside the body as well. Again, just because there are bacteria on a face or in a beard does not mean that there are feces present.

Makes sense beards can be dirty. Food and drink can be trapped in it until the guy gets around to taking a shower.

Though I have no scientific proof, other things that can filthy simply based on the fact most people don't clean them or rarely clean them:

- door knobs
- keys
- steering wheel
- car seats
- keyboard/mouse
- remote control
- smartphone/MP3 player
- fridge door handle
- toilet flush handle/lever/push button

Don't forget money. Money can be very dirty.

The thing is though that too many people are so obsessive about bacteria. There is always bacteria all over you no matter how often you shower.

I grew up in an environment that wasn't exactly the cleanest. My grandma would often cook chicken without washing her hands and I never got sick. Young children should be exposed to germs.
