After the depression at a time when the average factory worker was getting $2-3 a day the munchkins were getting $100 a day to act in the Wizard of Oz. They were gathered from all over and many were from rural communities around California. These little people never saw the big city or had so much money or freedom. When the Munchkins were not rehearsing and acting they were put up at a Hotel where they were boozing, gambling and making a racket. They also brought in women from outside. The producers had to put them on a strict curfew but got them a special club to booze and screw on the week ends.
