Castro pretty impressive too. Our series. We should have had 3 wins except for the melt down in the 8th last night.

Reyes got Two hits. Donaldson got two as well. Martin has a few and the rbi's in the first game. Thrown out a couple of runners now too I think.

The only ofer right now is Joey Bats. That will come around shortly.

And I'm really starting to like our new second baseman. He has good instincts and looks like a keeper so far.

Pretty sure most of us would have settled for a 2 - 1 series win. So close to being 3 - 0 though.

I was just following last night's game on the internet on the ESPN box score every 30 minutes or so because I couldn't listen to it or watch it and just happened to click in when Aaron Loup came into the game with 0.0 innings pitched and Jays leading 3-1.

And I said to myself, that's it, the game's over. There's no way they can survive a blunder move like that.
I know his stats are somewhat okay; but, still, Aaron Loup has screwed the team over way too many times in the past to be trusted late in a tight game in a high leverage situation.
Castro is bred to be a starting pitcher and was showing no signs of being tired; so, what was the point of switching over to a pitcher with much less talent than Castro.

I generally support John Gibbons; but, to me this loss is his fault. Sometimes a manager has to just get out of the way of the players and let them do the job they can do.
Instead he artificially meddled in a situation where meddling was not necessary. All he had to do was keep things in cruise control.
Anyway, Osuna and Castro both pitched brilliantly last night while Loup and Cecil were total clunkers.

I worship at the church of "whatever works right now baby" and I hope the wheels start turning in John Gibbon's mind because if he keeps managing the bullpen like he did last night, this team is going to melt faster than the wicked witch of the west.

Martin should have been replaced after Gibby went to the bullpen. He was so focused on catching the knuckleball he had nothing left for the relievers. His pitch selection was poor and the relievers didn't respond. Sometimes you have to put the chance to win over an individual player, Gibby has never done that.

The A-Roids are what we thought they were and we let them off the hook!

Also Gibby made brilliant move putting Pompey #2 in the order. Two doubles and some early RBI's set the tone. He gave Martin the day off and Navarro got 2 more early RBI's.

Smart move by Gibby resting Martin, but he shouldn't be batting second. We need him for his defense - Rick Dempsey never batted second.

The O's slapped themselves in the nuts with that Beck ditty to introduce the Jays. They deservedly took exception.

If you're referring to Hendriks, Hynes and Estrada, those guys are mop-up pitchers. They will rarely come on with a close lead, they are used almost always when Jays are either winning big or losing big, so they can eat up meaningless innnings

Agreed, but their bullpen is still, shall we say, the biggest question mark. That is assuming a moderately healthy lineup, in which case the depth becomes the big question mark.

If the Jays are carrying 3 pitchers to mop up that bullpen will be overworked well before the all star break. Redmond is there for long relief, so that in effect makes 4. After his last performance I am not sure I want to see Loup in a tight game, or at least until he shows he can get someone out. That leaves you with a 3 man bullpen, 2 of which are rookies, now that is worrisome!

Must have been a bad opening day (at home) experience for Orioles fans. Crowd pretty loud at the start and possibly unnerving the umpire's calling of balls and strikes in that first inning. Didn't stop the Jays from scoring though.

Let's hope Sanchez can follow with his own solid start.
