Had he lived when Big Night was released in 1996, Claudio Villa would have been 70 - younger than Paul Newman. He died in 1987 at 61 due to a botched heart bypass surgery. According to my barber he had a chance to come have the procedure done in Toronto but couldn't get over his fear of flying. On my shortlist of one of the greatest singers of the 20th century. The banquet in Big Night was set for Louis Prima but it's Villa's spirit that permeates the film.
