And wonder whether it really is possible to become addicted?
Anyone here on TERB think they are addicted? I really enjoy the company of escorts and would like to visit once or twice a week if I could, but just don't have the time nor desire to spend that much. I'd rather spread it out and plan a quality visit a couple of weeks in advance. I think I get more satisfaction that way....you know what they say about too much of a good thing.......

I honestly believe and have met porn and escort addicts.. I think it becomes an addiction when they can no longer afford it but cant help but do it anyways and it has begun to effect their financial lives, relationships and work life.

Like with anything else that's pleasurable, there will be some people who can't say no and will say "yes" too often. Pretty much anything can be addictive - sex, drugs, booze, porn, food, being an arsehole on internet forums - anything!

Though yeah, there are some (prolly Duchovny too) who will latch on to addiction as an "explanation" that tries to avoid any real responsibility for their choices.

There are people on TERB addicted to posting on TERB, so I'm sure there are also some hobbyists addicted to paying for sex, even if it doesn't have direct physical craving like that of a smoker's nicotine addiction..

Seriously? You "wonder" if this hobby and terb are addicting?! One needs to peruse through this forum for just a few minutes to figure THAT out. It most certainly is. Just look at the reviews section and the lounge... there is a constant barrage of reviews from the same few guys, and the lounge is even worse. It is littered with useless threads and even worse posts. (And don't get me started on the exercise in futility known as the politics forum!)

Is sex really an addiction? I don't know, it doesn't seem to have withdrawal symptoms. When I first started the hobby I went to MPs every week. But I was able to cut down to once a month for a half year or so. Not that I had a choice - I was in the middle of a career change. Nevertheless please correct me if I'm wrong, always good to know that facts.

There has been more than a couple of Terbites over the years that have ruined their businesses and/or financial health by getting too caught up in this business. One wasn't sex addiction so much as a need to post and be relevant on TERB.

I wonder if there is a difference between being addicted to porn/SPs and being completely disillusioned with and/or disinterested in so-called "real" relationships, but still needing to tend to your sex drive?

If there is no difference, then I think it's totally possible to become addicted.

If they are not the same, then I think very few people are truly addicted to porn/SPs. Only those people who had satisfactory "real" relationships in their lives, yet persisted in frequent access to porn/SPs, perhaps even to the detriment of those relationships, could be clearly identified as addicts.

I'm not sure if the linked article is talking about addiction to porn/SPs (which might have required a more indepth analysis of what else was going on in the subjects life), or an addiction to sex, which may be a different thing altogether. For example, the subject of the article talks about deep depression. People "self-medicate" in many ways to cope with depression. Having sex is just one of those ways. It's very difficult to determine whether his real problem is depression, and excessive sex is the symptom, or whether the excessive sex is the problem leading to the depression.

Oh yes I would not disagree if someone said it was an addiction, but I can also see as bud plug (*snicker*) says above that it is a cover for other issues, etc. (I think it is that way with me lol!) But think of it - how often in the life of a male that as you are minding your own business, walking about the world, and you come across a beautiful woman... and then have thoughts. So you spend your life in that mode, knowing that it is only a fantasy (although some you may ask out, but for shyer lads hard to do). Then, you stumble across a hobby that enables you to peruse pictures of beautiful women, you can select by the characteristics that most appeal to you, and then for a price you can actually be with them...without the dating, discussion, persuasion, or other hassles - just simply be with them. This is WHY...it has always been the world's oldest profession.... it maps entirely into our lower brains, and it takes effort to keep the upper brain engaged to shut this down so you don't spend out all your money or destroy those other relationships in your life.

If you wanna stop fapping and not want to think about sex all together, get an std. Like the clap, I got the clap for a 1.5 weeks and the thought of sex repulsed me. Didn't fap then.
