According to CP 24, you are not allowed to take photos of people in city parks or recreation areas.

So I guess if you are taking pictures of your kids, you will need a pad of model release forms for everyone in the background.

So if I want to take a picture of these girls, I'd have to get everyone's consent in the background?

Wonder if this policy also applies to taking pics/videos of people committing a crime? Let say you see someone assaulting a woman in a park. Do you need the culprit's permission to take his/her pic (which you will pass along to the police)?

I would not trust that article to be very accurate

Harvey Rogers, president of the Greater Toronto Council of Camera Clubs, takes out his camera phone at Driftwood Park on Monday. A city policy requires people to seek permission from staff before taking photos in a city park.

The policy is specific to taking pictures of other people without their permission.

You can still take nature pictures. You can still photograph friends and family. I'm you just can't take pictures of strangers without permission from them.

It's not nearly as all encompassing as the headline would have you believe.

What the fuck is wrong with the Star these days? First, Heather Mallick posts a poorly researched and dangerously inept article about the HPV vaccine that does nothing but spread fear and misinformation* ( http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/...has-a-dark-side-star-investigation-finds.html ), and now this. I expect this kind of sensationalist crap from a Sun paper, not an actual, you know, newspaper.

*and enables the voices inside Big Sleazy's head to whisper "See? Even the Star says vaccines are bad, mmkay? I told you not to listen to the doubters. Now stop sitting on that ley line, it's making my electromagnetic sensitivity flare up"

Your mistake is in thinking the Star is an actual newspaper. Joseph E.Atkinson founded it as a Liberal Party house organ and under the Atkinsons and Honderichs and their family trustsit has been one ever since. Try talking to other joutnalists who have worked for both the Star and Sun (Christie Blatchford comes to mind) and get their view on which is an "actual" newspaper. The Sun clearly has its failings, but i guarantee you'd be surprised at the insiders' view.

Wonder if the "no photo" ban applies to the media and cops wearing body cams? These media guys are always taking pics everywhere.

It's not a bylaw so tell them to mind their own business.

Yeah, about that... Chrstie Blatchford is a fucking hack that wouldn't recognize actual journalism if Woodward And Bernstein picked her up and threw her into a vat of it. Do you have any examples of, you know, actual journalists that have worked for both papers and can honestly state that the Sun is a more legitimate organ? Fucked if I can. Not only journalists, but even readers who can walk and chew gum at the same time know the distinction between a newspaper and a tabloid - which is why even when I disagree with the editorial slant of the Glob and that National (dull as a) Post, I can recognise them as bona fide newspapers. But if you think that a genuine paper like the Star with a slightly left-of-centre editorial bias is somehow inferior to a tabloid with tits-n-ass and all the small words fit to print, then well... there ain't much hope now, is there. Enjoy your tabloid, friend.
