It is only the speed that might be surprising.
And while those in the head office likely saw it coming, it is still very sad for them.

These job cuts follow Target and IBM job cuts. Also, the oil patch and their feeder industries are laying off people left and right.

Tim Horton's to cut hundreds of jobs.
And with it their much hyped Canadian identity as worst tasting burger chain spreads their own US based management on what was a proud Canadian company.

Much like government bureaucracies , undoubtedly, there are plenty of layers of lard not destined for donuts, hanging about in head office and regional offices

Retail products have been deteriorating quality wise, so obviously, something has long gone awry on the mother ship. That's not to suggest a good HR trimming will improve the product....to the contrary, it might just accelerate Timmies eventual demise

In a house somewhere
If Canadian had any backbone, they would boycott Tim Horton's right now. That would send a message. Doesn't affect me since I have been boycotting them for a while now. Crappy coffee.

Anybody that is into coffee would agree it is bad. That's why it is also easy for me to avoid them. Second Cup has way better coffee and is Canadian so we should all go there instead!

Sad state of affairs, but it's standard operating procedure for all businesses these days. Always watch your back if you work for someone else especially once they start plastering those 'Top Employer' awards all over the office. I don't think that Timmy's ever won it, but I'm sure they had some kind of internal program like that.

I grew up in Hamilton - Timmy's is part of my identity. I grew up close to the first Tim Horton's location (which is a museum now apparently).
I've been saying I'd boycott but I don't want to hurt the franchise owners or employees. I don't spend nearly as much as I once did at Tim's now (I used to drive to the closest location for a bagel and a French Vanilla daily for breakfast - even on my days off for reasons I no longer comprehend lol... Additionally I purchased multiple steeped teas daily and regularly grabbed sandwhiches and soups. I could happily live off of Timmy's food. I realized that I'm a good cook so all that ended but I was a bigtime customer for a long time lol....) but if I'm at a corner (like Yonge and College), and I have the option of Tim's, Starbucks, or Second Cup... I will go to Second Cup, (just like I consciously choose other businesses bc they are Canadian-based). I've always been a Second Cup fan but even moreso now.

Though Tim's was owned by Wendy's for awhile, it was more palatable than the current situation.

Originally named Tim Horton's, it's now Tim Hortons.

Thank the Quebec language police for ditching the apostrophe!

3G capital did the same slash and burn to Burger King when it was acquired. Franchise owners better watch out. They're about to feel the pain.

Why would a Franchise owner be in trouble if their business is good? The news showed that some locations are hiring.

I go to Tim's cuz it's more convenient and cheaper but yes, Second Cup has better coffee and so does SB (although the latter usually is too high a caffeine content).

I've been brewing my own in my little Mr. Coffee more so lately before I head out for work.

I stopped going to Tim Horton's over 5 years ago. The coffee is terrible.

Oddly enough, McDonald's makes one of the better cups of coffee out there. Them and Timothy's.

Starbucks coffee is too burnt.
