I believe this runs in July.

Can anyone give any insight on how the venues work, where one might stay?
Is it focused in one part of the city?

Are there venues that are better than others?
I can't find anything yet on who is performing, etc.

Any help is appreciated.

I've gone a few times to the just for laughs festival. I've stayed at the delta on president Kennedy and its walking distance to the theaters on st Denis, to shopping and to restaurants. There are plenty of small venues that go on during the festival, along with street performers etc...but the real draw is the "gala" evenings that are held in theatre venues and have a big name host along with a list of stand up acts. Usually, there are 4 or 5 Gala events to choose from. If you get the chance to go, it's worth it.

I'll do my best, but it's been a while since I attended.

It's mostly held in the rue St. Denis area, between Sherbrooke and Ste. Catherine Streets.
Although there are many venues, the main galas are held at Theatre St. Denis. The galas have one host and a number of comedians. Most are taped for later tv broadcast.
The other venues either have more focussed shows or a single performer for a longer show.

Getting around the city is pretty easy, so any hotel downtown will work. The closer you are to the hub of the festival, the more you'll pay.

Don't forget there's normally one French week and one English week with the middle weekend as an overlap.

It used to be that if you bought a package, you got to choose your shows before they went on sale to the general public. Not sure if it still woks like that.

That's about right - shows are at the (new location) Club Soda too - some decent places to stay are the Hyatt Regency on St. Catherine at Jeanne Mance (right in the middle of the action), or just west, there's a boutique-y hotel called Le Square Phillips that's pretty reasonable, offers included continental breakfast and has apartment-style rooms, with fridge and stove.
