Don't mess with Aaron Barberian. The risk with fighting back is that the robber might kill you.

BTW: What kind of person would steal his cellphone?

I don't know shit about this guy, but it's hard not to like him with quotes like this...

Barberian admits that fighting back against a mugger may not have been the wisest decision, but he stands by his actions.

...“It’s probably not one of my smarter ideas…but I realized he didn’t have a weapon and I just decided to take action and get what’s mine back.”

He says the mugger eventually ran off before police could arrive.

But the story doesn’t end there.

Barberian says he was victimized a second time when a woman stopped her car and picked up his iPhone, which fell to the ground during the melee.

About $125 is also missing after the tray of money was dropped. The video shows bills blowing down the street.

“I was shocked. She’s the thief,” he said of the woman who nabbed his phone. “The other man is probably just a mentally disturbed individual with addiction issues who decided he need a bit of money. The other person intentionally stole my phone".

Seems like a good guy. I would eat at his restaurant.

Just heard now on the radio that the Po-leece picked up the mugger at 1am. I'm sure they'll find the lady iPhone thief too - cross-check the type and colour of SUV and narrow down city of Toronto and possible license plate numbers.

I normally don't snitch (b/c they get stitches), but if I were her neighbour and I recognized her, I'd probably call 222-TIPS on her. Just cuz it's Xmas and that's a shitty thing to do to a man trying avoid being robbed.

I found this to be an interesting story for a few reasons.
1) Kudos to Barberian for not taking crap from the mugger.
2) How low is the person who stole the phone?
3) Surprised there weren't more people swooping in to pick up the cash that was flying around.
4) What the hell was Barberian thinking carrying a tray of cash down the street like that? Does this not invite a mugging?

This incident reminds me of the one a few years ago when the police arrested a Chinese merchant for apprehending a shoplifter.

BTW: Someone did say on CP 24 that Aaron used excessive force.

What a cheap fucking bitch stealing his phone. I'm blown away. I ate there not long ago best steak in the city. Hope he gets his phone back and she gets whatever karma deems fit.
barberians steaks are not even close to the best in the city, nor is their service, decor, or the quality of anything else they serve.

Rich white man beating an underpriviledged black man. Sad. Where's Al Sharpton when you need him.

You don't mess with a dedicated Armenian carnivore. I can see why he didn't go for the knockout, the police may have charged him with assault. The second man should have tended to the till, Aaron had the situation under control.

From the security camera:

Looks like they haven't and may never catch the woman who stole his cellphone.

Query: Can someone actually use a stolen cellphone? Don't you need a password or something to make it work? Also, won't the GPS tell the authorities where you are if you use a stolen phone?

Thats what I thought too. I was waiting for an elevator at Casino Rama. I heard this ringing and looked in the garbage can, and there was a brand new iphone. I picked it up and would've been nice to keep it but I did the right thing to return it the the front desk. I'm not sure who would throw the phone in the garbage.
