That Nik Kershaw song is quintessential 80's - definitely one of my favourites from that decade.

Stay tuned for my top 20 songs of the 80's which I will be posting shortly :)

Ya, I have it on my playlist as a workout option or when driving to work...it's awesome, and added some songs to my fave playlist, especially songs I never heard b4.

I remember the time I used to buy all my songs, at least now with YouTube and apps you can stream them directly.

I use it every day...although I have not yet found my country niche...maybe somebody should start a country thread :D

BTW...I am not going anywhere...thought about deleting it, but I am like so what...it is part of this secret life so be it, good, or bad, loser or fail...it is what it is...I can't run anymore. I feel free...

...if you took it I don't think you will get very far as it has been recently tainted :biggrin1:

What's it worth to ya :biggrin1:

You know that is how I think, but you also know when I tell you I would never take that away from you, that it is the truth.

I can only imagine your face.... LOL

Probably not the best song of the 90125 album by Yes in the early 80s, but I love the power chords and bass. Of course, love Jon Anderson's voice and the background harmonies and synthesizer. Guitar solo ain't bad.

K Douglas' top 20 of the 80's countdown

Disclaimer - This is an objective list of what I feel are the top 20 songs of the 1980's in any genre. It in no way reflects my personal favourite songs of that decade. The criteria I used was a combination of sound quality, chart and sales success and overall influence.

#20 Come On Eileen - Dexy's Midnight Runners & The Emerald Express

A classic 80's one hit wonder. Anytime I've been to a retro 80's dance club this track packs the floor. Very unique sound - not too many pop groups utilize a banjo an accordian and a violin as primary instruments.

#19 Tom Sawyer - Rush

Arguably Canada's top band of all time, Rush's seminal song was this powerhouse track from their album Moving Pictures released in 1980. Peart's drum pattern on this song has been used as a universal teaching technique for aspiring rock drummers.

#18 Tainted Love - Soft Cell

Tell me this song doesn't scream 80's to you. The only problem with this song is it's too short.

#17 Just Like Heaven - The Cure

One of the more visible of the 80's alternative rock bands this song might not have been the Cure's most commercially successful but it really defines their sound. Rolling Stone has listed it in their top 500 songs of all time.

#16 Pour Some Sugar On Me - Def Leppard

The first single released from their 1987 album Hysteria (which is a masterpiece of 1980's hard rock). Big song, big video. Sold 4 million copies. I'd rank it higher but I don't feel it's even close to their best song or even this album's best song. But no doubt hugely influential and received tons of airplay.

#15 - The Message - Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five

Was the first rap song to address social consciousness through it's lyrics. Hugely influential in the hip hop arena. I listen to Backspin primarily and this is probably the song that has been played the most on there over the years.

#14 Personal Jesus - Depeche Mode

What I admire about this song is that Depeche Mode kinda went out of their mold by incorporating a bluesy guitar riff and a bit less synthesizer. One of their most successful selling singles it's ranked #368 on Rolling Stone's top songs of all time. But definitely is their most influential song it has been covered numerous times over the years.

#13 Bette Davis Eyes - Kim Carnes

Grammy award winning song from 1981, it spent 9 consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard pop charts. Carnes' raspy voice really make this record pop.

#12 - Walk This Way - Run DMC and Aerosmith

This song laid the foundation for future rap/rock collaborations and really paved the way for rap music to become a legitimate mainstream musical genre. It also revitalized the careers of Aerosmith.

#11 Bizarre Love Triangle - New Order

A favourite at all the teen dance clubs back in the mid 80's really was New Order's defining song and the ambassador of the New Wave genre. Despite it's lack of chart success it was ranked as #201 on Rolling Stone's greatest songs of all time. Has been covered numerous times over the years and when I hear it today it brings back all the memories of growing up in the 80's.

Taking a break, will post my top 10 songs later.
