One of the things I've been working on, is educating myself, on this New Law, as well as the reasoning behind it.
I fell upon this link by Elizabeth May Leader of the GPC. Although what she states is very true and in accordance with most of our thoughts here on this board,
what truly Intrigued me, were some of the comments posted afterwards, One poster in particular (Handle name) sunny, who seemed to be very versed on the subject of why.
I recommend you read his comments. He also sighted three books on this particular, subject as well. http://elizabethmaymp.ca/bill-c36-beyond-repair/

Its interesting to note that these Rescue Organizations are fully aware of the implications that C36 will cause, yet are full supporters of it !!!

Are any Sp's feminists? I think appeasing them is the main motive by the Harper govt. I read somewhere that women have greater voter turnout.

Not sure about feminists, what I'm talking about here, are Rescue organizations created to protect so called victims, which for the most part, are probably headed by women.

Someone said way before that the $20 million spread out over 5 years will fill the coffers of these rescue groups and won't even get to most girls.

In fact they exist to create victims. Taking people who think they are content with their choice and convincing them that they have been victimized all along. This kind of feminism is very similar to religion. These are the kind of feminists that want to tell other women how to think and behave like a woman should. I think some of them probably believe they are doing the right thing and that the harm of C-36 are justified to convince sex workers to stop. Others are just against sex in general and will do anything to stop it.

From what I gather, many of the people involved in these rescue business are former sex workers who were very unhappy with their experience. They either can't understand or accept that others are fine with this job.

I didn't read that book by Laura Augustin, but I read some of her articles. She has a blog called the Naked Anthropologist.

You might be right. But one of the posters on the Elizabeth site expressed this.

"The rescue industry organizations were overly represented at the hearings regarding C36, hundreds of lawyers have examined c36 and found it full of holes,
and multiple legitimate organizations have done even more research. And yet when in the hearings the Con MPs and senators focus their questions and attention on these victim pimps,
what was the first thing they did? They had their hands out already looking for their piece of the 20 million.

I don't think any of them went out of the hearings without implying or directly saying they expected to get some of that money. I didn't hear even one of the anti C36ers expecting or demanding a penny.

Rescue industry is called a business because they profit off the 'idea' that there are thousands of victims in need of rescue.
They use false numbers and inflated stats to prove that they need to be there, and they need to get paid. Case in point, Timea Nagy is a big rescue business owner:
due to media attention, she now gets paid by Hamilton police to 'help' them find victims. Something that she is supposedly an expert in and yet after seeing over 100
diffferent sex workers, they haven't found even one, and no one under age. Timea also, on her site, provides booklets on how to spot these victims. However,
guess what? These are not free, everyone has to actually pay for them. Does that sound like someone who isn't trying to profit off the creation of victims that do not exist?

Another example, 26 police depts across the country did a sweep looking for sex trafficking victims, and didn't find any.
In fact, they figure they focus on the sex workers who travel from one city to another, surely they are forced victims of trafficking right? Nope, not a one. and still, no one under 18?

So what's up, where are all these victims. police say they are searching, and Timea has provided all the info they need to find them,
and yet, and yet, shoot, are they all hiding? Can't make money if they aren't advertising and being seen, should be easy, but heck,
all those links you've got, must mean police really aren't trying hard enough i guess."

Feminists have trademarked women. They are such trolls sometimes. I love how they assume all women fall under their umbrella and are their merchandise.

This is a bit of a ridiculous and naive statement. The sitting government considers feminists to be part of their enemies list and has no interest in appeasing them. And no one I know that identifies as a feminist is a supporter of this government or likely to become one from an act of clumsy political pandering like Bill C-36. In fact, many of the feminist women I know are supportive of sex workers - and not in a "oh, those poor dears we really need to help them" sense.

Okay but what about the so called 'abolitionist feminists'? If they aren't feminists, what are they? Women from the religious right?

He is talking about the sex positive ones who are a minority. The majority are against women as sex objects and are the ones who are currently attacking the gaming industry for the way women are portrayed. Joy Smith et al are anything but sex positive.

If you ever read Jezebel.com you know the general drift.

When I heard about that $20 million, that's immediately what I feared. And I wonder how much of the reasoning behind it was to get the "rescue" groups to support the bill. So sad.
