Until it's proven technology I won't hold my breath.Remember the guys who said they got cold fusion to work, only to be a scam.

That's in my head too. The miniaturization is a huge challenge as is the cost.

A critique of Lockheed's plan.

On the other hand, an American University team has a design for a commercial fusion power reactor that costs around the same as a coal plant. Even if it ends up being a few times more expensive, no CO2, no nuclear waste, and cheap as hell fuel would be worth it.

Let us hope that they can do it.
Let's hope we're not so dazzled by cheap and easy that we forget to look at the upstream and downstream costs and effects.

Who knew being able to work all summer in a cool office wearing a wool suit would cost a couple of generations of kids the experience of playing outdoors all day?

Would be the death of coal, wind and solar..... You have to wonder if they would give the US military a decade or two exclusive? He kept talking about an aircraft that would never have land....

I seriously doubt you;re going to see enough effort & investment to make this workable in the near future. Furthermore, I believe it is easier and more achievable to vastly improve quality control & safety in a few hundred large nuclear plants than to have tens of thousands of these miniature units - mostly in private hands - all conforming to rigorous quality control & maintenance standards, at all times.

There are already solutions available which could almost entirely replace fossil fuels in the areas or Power Generation, Home Heating, and personal & light industrial Transportation - at least in well developed industrial countries to start with.

But the truth is that phase out of fossil fuels is nowhere near the political leaderships horizon. Just glance at the resources & priority being given to new drilling, fracking, butting heads with Russia over unverified arctic oil ... this indicates the political commitment to fossil fuel dependence almost across the board, keeping pretty much on the current course for at least a couple hundred more years.

Here's a recent article from Slate as to why the holy grail of fusion energy will always be 20 years away.

Don't know - can't be bothered

Umm, it's TV & Internet that are costing kids the experience of playing outdoors all day...
And the lazy ass "parents" that allow this to happen.

The current "education" system doesn't help either.

Plus,...have you seen how much time irresponsible people waste fricken texting,...
