This is what I've always believed is the core of the issue, not "johns' rights" or any other such argument, but the very right to right of consenting adults to freely engage in whatever way they choose.
Exactly, John's rights won't fly. They loath us, it's the right to choose and the way the law is set up it discriminates against one side as well as it promotes entrapment.

I believe many are sitting on their hands afraid to post, afraid to sign petitions and some just taking this very lightly, other's just oblivious to what's coming down the pike like a freight train. It will all slap everyone hard once good innocent folks start being brought up in court, outed and called perverts by the media. I see some ladies that when I ask how they feel about the law coming in, ask me "what law", guys do the same thing. The general media, especially conservative talk shows are really NOT giving this a lot of press in my opinion.

I very much agree. I find it hilarious that terbies are afraid to sign a petition. Every member registers with an email address, with fake names. They will post about their sexual exploits but can sign up to support the women they see. Its hypocritical & unfair to the women about to lose their human rights. We're fighting for you guys. Least you could all do is add your vote!!

I, myself, have never "hobbied" but I was thinking the exact same thing a few days ago when I heard that 100 people had signed. Right now there are 3500+ users on the board, 530+ being signed-in members. I too wondered how there could be so few signatories when this board is heavily viewed/used.

It seems to me (as, in most parts, an outsider on this forum) like a callous choice for so many to participate, but not support the women you share companionship with. It reminds me of the children's story, "The Little Red Hen".

I've posted this before, but Elizabeth May (leader of the Green Party of Canada) has a petition up her her website. It's located here:
http://elizabethmaymp.ca/get-involved/protect-sex-trade-workers

She has other petitions up there too:
http://elizabethmaymp.ca/get-involved/

This goes without needing to be said (but I'll say it anyway), there needn't be fear of incriminating yourself by signing the petition of a leader of a federal political party. One could say that they were looking at issues for the 2015 federal election and you decided to sign one or more petitions. Elizabeth May has many petitions you can put your name to for great causes like:

-Affordable housing
-Child care and early learning
-Ban animal testing
-Defending Canadians abroad
-Extend the ecoEnergy Retrofit program
-Protect bees - ban neonicotinoids
-Marine Protected areas
-Etc.
-Etc.

Signing a 1 or 2 petitions from the Green Party is non-incriminatory, and doesn't leave these women (that take huge risks to their life, general wellbeing, and liberties in Canada) 'out in the cold' when many need some support. Heck, I have never "hobbied" and I signed Elizabeth May's petition - in fact I signed a few of them (love the marine protected area and national transit petitions).

Best of luck ladies. :)

lol, that's a good point!! I am encouraging to use a fake name and address... that doesn't necessarily make the petition legitimate, but what it does do is SENDS A LETTER TO PM HARPER AND PETER MACKAY EVERY TIME SOMEONE SIGNS IT.

There was talk on Perb about emailing MP's, but people were afraid to do that too, so I started this petition as a way of making it easy, but it's amazing how very little sex trade workers themselves or clients are willing to take a few minutes out of their day to do this. I hear people complaining enough about this bill, but not seeing anybody take much action to try to stop it. I wouldn't be so afraid of signing the petition as I wold be for what happens to our Human Rights, when this bill passes.

Precisely. No fear of posting on boards with an email & ip address attached, but a petition to save the lives of the women they enjoy & post about??? Shouldn't be too much to ask. Heck, folks could multi-post with real emails, hobby emails, etc.

Same with sending emails to mp's, senators, premiers. Use your hobby email!!!

Honestly the only power available is power of #s. That goes for votes, petitions, emails, news comments, social media, etc. I wish we could organize 1 massive day-of-action! Country-wide! Have everyone blow up twitter & the email inboxes of the gov! A massive viral virtual protest.!!!

Would love to see such an "Explosion", but it's going to take a heck of lot more work on all our parts if that will ever get organized.... it is possible, but with piddly numbers showing public support it certainly won't be. I will continue to research organizations that are already standing behind this and connecting with them, but the more people who step in and do some of this research themselves and share what they have come up with, then the easier it will be to try to REALLY get something going with this. There is so much more we can all do than just sign the petition... brainstorming and sharing links to other organizations I or others such as you MPsquared can contact is also very helpful!!

If anyone is willing to mail in a hard copy that would be great. All you have to do is Google to find our list of senators and their addresses. However anything we can do at all including emailing the senators is better than nothing at all. Just what if we can get enough movement going here that they at least "Delay", the bill. That in itself is better than having no impact at all, but we cannot make an impact if we don't network to make a statement.

And yes go ahead and just send a hard copy to Elizabeth May, if you don't want to address any of the senators themselves... anything at all, we need your support everyone!!

I'm not sure if this was in relation to what I wrote.

Elizabeth May's website says,

"Help Elizabeth protect the lives of sex trade workers! Sign below or download this petition, have as many people as possible to sign it, and mail it – postage free – to either her Ottawa or Sidney offices. With as few as 25 signatures, Elizabeth can present your petition to the government in the House of Commons."

The point I was making was that if a signature appears on her petition there is not way to tell if the signatory is someone who "hobbies" or not. How could it be? She's the leader of the Green Party of Canada and millions of Canadians have been to her website.

If the online petition is signed, staff in her office can print it off and take it to the House, no? If her petition is currently online it doesn't mean that the submitted information can't be compiled and submitted to the House on paper. People have the choice to e-sign the online petition or download it themselves, print it off, get signatures, and send that hard copy to her.

Absolutely and I set up the online petition that I did so she gets a copy of the letter every time someone signs the petition, as does PM Harper and Peter MacKay. Trust me I will also be following up to ensure she is on this in some way, even if I have to personally call her office. Please people we need your support... thank so much for all you are doing!!

MALE, CALGARY, CANADA about 10 hours ago
Because consenting adults should have the right to set the terms of their own private sexual experience. When phrased as a question the answer becomes clear - Should consenting adults be able to set the terms of their own sexual experience? Canada is NOT Sweden.

Because virtually all organizations that represent active sex workers are against Bill C-36 on the grounds that it will make sex work more dangerous. These voices have been roundly ignored. To ignore the input of those who undertsand the issues best and are most directly affected by Bill C-36 is arrogant, patronizing and unethical.

FEMALE, VANCOUVER, CANADA about 13 hours ago
Canada is supposed to be the land of the free- freedom to do a job that is between 2 consenting adults- that is what I as a provider offer. I do it as my choice, I am independent .

My clients are decent people who have a human desire that I fill.

Please go after those who traffic children and foreigners who are being used as slaves-that is a totally different situation.

The thousands of independent, happy, healthy, escorts need to be able to advertize so we can be safe and continue to screen our clients- they are not criminals !!

Either are we- dont take our freedom away please !!
