As AP reports,

A man who had been fired from a food processing plant in an Oklahoma City suburb beheaded a woman with a knife and was attacking another worker when he was shot and wounded by a company official, police said Friday.

The 30-year-old man, who has not been charged, stabbed Colleen Hufford, 54, severing her head in Thursday's attack at Vaughan Foods, Moore Police Sgt. Jeremy Lewis said.

"Yes, she was beheaded," Lewis told The Associated Press before a Friday news conference.

Lewis said the man then stabbed Traci Johnson, 43, a number of times before being shot by Mark Vaughan, a reserve sheriff's deputy and the company's chief operating officer.

While questioning the suspect's co-workers, investigators learned he had recently started trying to convert several employees to Islam, Lewis said. Moore police have asked the FBI to aid in the investigation and look into the man's background because of the nature of the attack, Lewis said.

Johnson and the suspect were hospitalized and in stable condition Friday, Lewis said.

Lewis said he does not yet know what charges will be filed, adding that police are waiting until the man is conscious to arrest him.

Oklahoma Department of Corrections records show the suspect, whom The Associated Press is not naming because he has not been charged, has multiple religious tattoos, including one in Arabic that means "peace be with you."

Lewis said the suspect had been fired in a building that houses the company's human resources office, then immediately drove to the entrance of the business. Lewis said he didn't know why the man was fired.

"This was not going to stop if he didn't stop it. It could have gotten a lot worse," Lewis said.

A Vaughan spokeswoman said the company was "shocked and deeply saddened" by the attack.

An Oklahoma twister took her house and a local maniac took her life.

Colleen Hufford, the 54-year-old woman who was savagely beheaded by a deranged co-worker, was working at Vaughn Foods when a deadly tornado tore through Moore, Okla., last year and flattened her home.

But the food plant proved to be no sanctuary when Alton Nolen stormed inside Thursday and attacked Hufford, the first person who crossed his path.

“I just can’t imagine that,” said Deb Martin, 63, who was Hufford’s neighbor before the tornado struck. “Every time I saw her she had a smile on her face. She was a really jolly and upbeat person.”

The FBI is now investigating the outbreak of Islamic State-like terror in the heartland because Nolen recently converted to Islam and had been trying to convert others.

Martin, who rebuilt after the twister, said she immediately thought of ISIS and their public beheadings when she heard what happened to her old neighbor.

“I know you read about it in other parts” of the world, Martin, 63, said. “But here in Moore? At Vaugn's Foods? And she is the first person he sees? It sounds like ISIS."

So far, police said, there is no evidence that Nolen’s new-found faith figured in the grisly attack on Hufford and another woman who worked at the plant.

“This suspect was angry about some sort of incident that happened at the business,” Sgt. Jeremy Lewis of the Moore Police Department said. “These women really had nothing to do with that. He was just acting out against them. They are the first people he came in contact with.”

But NewsOK, the web operation of The Oklahoman newspaper, snagged a Facebook statement from a woman they believe is Nolen’s sister. They did not identify her.

“He is alive and doing well,” the message read. “Thanks to all praying warriors out there friends and family. To god be the glory! My bro is alive and just know that the devil is a lie. Please continue prayers.”

The Islamic Council of Oklahoma said they had not heard of Nolen before the deadly attack.

“He was not known to any of the leadership in Oklahoma mosques,” said Sheryl Siddiqui, the group’s flak. “We do not have any confirmation of his conversion either in prison or out in the community.”

But local mosques were taking security precautions just in case.

“They have this ISIS thing on their minds and now this guy has brought it to America,” Saad Mohammad, a spokesman for the Islamic Society of Greater Oklahoma City, told NewsOK.

Nolen, 30, went on a rampage not long after he was fired, Lewis said.

Around 4 p.m. Thursday, Nolen arrived back at the plant, clipping a car with his SUV, and barged into the front office where he attacked Hufford.

With a knife, Nolen stabbed the poor women in the neck so hard he severed her head, Lewis said.

Then Nolen went after 43-year-old Traci Johnson, stabbing her repeatedly with the same knife.

Alerted by the screams, Vaughn Foods chief operating officer Mark Vaughn shot Nolen and ended his rampage.

“He’s a hero in this situation,” Lewis said. “It could have gotten a lot worse.”

Nolen did not know either victim.

“They just happened to be in his way as he came in upset," Lewis said.

Nolen was taken to a nearby hospital and expected to survive, police said. He has not yet been charged with a crime.

Johnson was in stable condition and also expected to recover.

It’s not clear how long Nolen worked at the factory or why he was fired. But he has had several run-ins with the law since 2011.

Among other things, Nolen’s rap sheet includes arrests for possession of a controlled substance, assault and battery on a police officer, and escape from detention.

Citing local Corrections Department records, NewsOK reported that Nolen has tattooed on his abdomen “as-salaamu alaikum,” which is Arabic for “peace be with you.”

But Nolen also had “Jesus Christ” tattooed on his chest, “Judah” on his left arm, and a pair of praying hands on his right arm, according to NewsOK.

Vaughn Foods re-opened Friday and most of the 300 workers were back at their jobs.

“We are working with authorities on this active investigation and ask that you direct your questions to local law enforcement,” Vaughn Foods said in a statement.

Moore is no stranger to tragedy. Last year, large swath of the this town of 57,000 residents were levelled by a massive tornado and 24 people were killed.

Apparently, he was only a recent convert to Islam (if however seriously).

So I don't think you can lay this at the feet of Islam (in this case)

He's just a fuck head period.

Perhaps he felt injustice at being fired? I dont see how religion has anything to do with it?
He was black too, perhaps that was a factor too? (why stop at religion?)

Just because a muslim commits a murder doesn't mean it's directly linked to his or her religion.

There are many other reasons to kill other than the name of religion.

Because of his push to proselytize everyone in the food processing plant. Because beheading people while not unheard of is not exactly common.


Indeed there are other reasons why he may have gone on this rampage, at this point I don't believe they have been able to determine his motivation.

Yup. But to their credit these are US officers who don't make nearly as much as our officers.

He seemed to have converted to Islam sometime just after 2010 when he was arrested for drugs and assaulting a police officer so he's not a recent convert. He also displayed support for radical Islam on his facebook page and apparently was trying to convert some of his co-workers. Given that I don't think you can rule out a connection. Not saying its the reason for it since he did exhibit violent tendencies pre conversion.

Because when a deranged Christian goes on a killing rampage motivated out of religion and politics, he's a lone nutter, but when a Muslim commits any act of violence for any reason, it's because Islam is evil. It just makes sense!

Its funny how people reach deep to find links to Christianity in a criminal then wax poetic about how horrible Christianity and religion is, but when its a Muslim who commits a crime, everyone lines up to insist that not all Muslims are like that, etc.

Sigh.

A law enforcement official said the F.B.I. had not found any connection between Mr. Nolen and the Islamic State, also known as ISIS, or other groups. “It’s not a typical workplace response, and given the current environment it is very alarming and is something we are closely looking into,” one of the officials said. “So far, there is no nexus to terrorism we are aware of.”

Law enforcement officials said Mr. Nolen recently converted to Islam. On a Facebook page that appears to be his, references to Islam began in April 2013, and he called himself Jah’Keem Yisrael. The page is filled with criticism of American culture, and dire warnings for those who do not follow that religion.

“This is the last days,” he wrote in his most recent post, on Tuesday. In another, in July, he wrote: “AMERICA AND ISRAEL ARE WICKED. WAKE UP MUSLIMS!!!”

It appeared that Mr. Nolen had no relationship with either victim, he said.

“It did appear random,” Mr. Lewis said. “He wasn’t targeting anyone, wasn’t going specifically after them. It appears they were just in his way as he came in.”
