So we get even more delays now on the 410 during construction periods ? I think HOV lanes actually cause more gridlock. I take the QEW from Burlington to Brampton every day. Coming home the cars in the HOV are flying until they see there exit come up. So they rapidly slow down and then force a merger and get across 3 lanes as fast as possible. Causing everyone around them to slow down. Just my opinion from what I see, rather see that 4th lane available for everyones use. Or here even better plan, ban trucks from driving during rush hour !!The problem is they're adding HOV lanes. I don't think for a second the positive impact it has on reducing traffic outweighs simply having an extra lane for all traffic. Most people carpool to save money, not time. And those who do to save time won't fill that lane the majority of the time.
Most studies on the matter are flawed in that they cover the theoretical impact of HOV lanes, rather than the actual impact.
The story mentions 2 new ramps. I remember 401E to 403W being mentioned a few years ago as one new ramp. I assume 403E to 401W being the other, although that is going to be one hell of a ramp going up over the current flyovers. I could also handle them getting that third lane open again in the new express going east through Hurontario to 410.They need 401 east bound to go to 403 southbound. More lanes just means more cars piling up at the merge.
