I think the only other way to get porn back in the day was through CompuServe. I seem to recall the CompuServe was organized similar to Usenet newsgroups. So you had something like alt.adult.xxx, etc. but everything was in garbage quality and took hours to download a 5 MB file. Not fun on a 28.8 kb modem and you would piss off everyone in the house since they couldn't use the phone.
