Well there is now.

I'm sure that the republicans are busy politicking coming up with all kinds of talking points but I really can't see too much wrong with what he's said they are doing. Invited by the legitimate government and trying to stop a genocide seems to be right.

I do find US connections with Iraq's Shia dominated government interesting.

The problem is that President Obama was so desperate to withdraw from Iraq that he did so long before Iraq was ready. Further, the U.S. has never applied the pressure on Nouri Al-Maliki to say either you learn to get along with your moderate political opposition, or very bad things are going to happen to you.

Unfortunately these air strikes should have taken place three months ago, when ISIS was a few convoys out in the desert.

I cannot believe they allowed Isis to take control of that dam, they are fucked at this point. The best the americans can do now is to help Iraq secure its borders and starve them out, as well as air strikes on a massive scale against Isis targets

ISIS is an army only about 10K strong. If the US was serious about taking them out they could do it no problem. Obama won't though because he wants other nations to step up. Earth to Barack - that ain't happening. This guy is such an inept leader, completely asleep at the switch.

Didn't Al-Maliki kick the U.S. out of Iraq? The British had it right when they said the Shiites are useless and picked the minority Sunnis to rule Iraq when the Brits left.

As I mentioned about republican talking points...I'm sure that if Obama acted sooner or did more it would be 'how dare he'.

Of all the BS in the world today, this ISIS thing, is the most serious one, by far.

There is a thing called political capital. It started with Clinton. He wasted a little bit of it, W Bush wasted a lot of it, Obama continued the tradition of dubya.

Remember George Bush the father, when he defeated all of Saddam Hussein dug in army in the Mother of All Battles, but refused to advance to Bhagdad?

Whatever you think of that decision, Bush the father was right on one point, that the Americans finally washed away completely the memories of Vietnam War.

Just reading the news today, and the comments from the Prez, it seems the Americans are going to relive the Vietnam War, just not the beginning, only the elongated withdraw.

When the Americans withdrew from South Vietnam, it was all over for the South Vietnamese. When the Americans withdrew from Iraq, it was the beginning of the end for the puppet government.

We've seen bombing campaigns in the news before. They do not work. You need boots on the ground. The only time bombing worked was when Milsovic gave up.

Ya think ISIS will ever give up?

Those people in the White House, where they really belong is in Ontario Provincial politics!

Unfortunately with religiously motivated extremists there is no such thing as political capital. They will take any support they are given but their views are deeply held and aren't going to change if Obama (or anyone else) kisses their asses.

Not sure to what exactly you are referring to?

Obama's relationship with the ISIS?

Or Obama's relationship with the U.S. Republican party?

Either way, I do not think that matters here.

What the USA needs to do, is put in place another Saddam Hussein. Right now, Iraq is a failed state, exporting instability.

Saddam was brutal, but Iraq was a country that functioned. Currently, Iraq now is more brutal than the Saddam era, and does not function at all.

Case in point. What if the ISIS decides to blow up the dam they captured, just because they feel like it?

Iraq needs Saddam Hussein more than ever.

How is the US Air Force going to enforce stability. They can try. That's all they can do.

Do you REALLY believe this?
Iraq is a major piece for them geo-politically, on so many different levels.
Do you really believe that Obama is waiting for other nations to affect the outcome of one of the U.S.'s most important assets?
The U.S. spent over 2 trillion $ getting their hands on Iraq. Think about it

The only solution would be to install another dictator in his place. The U.S. can't go that route anymore. Those days are gone.
Hussein posed a greater threat to the U.S. and it wasn't military. There's always a trade off.

It wasn't that many years ago that Obama claimed he was going to raise America's stature on the world stage. Seems like a lifetime ago.
I think he is using them to pressure that douchebag al malaki. Either agree to US conditions or go fuck yourself and die.

I think if Isis is allowed to establish its state, it will pose a huge danger to the west.

You clearly have no idea what a Zionist is.
Well they are trying to establish a state based on their brand of Islam. Which is not that far from the ideals of Zionism and especially extreme Zionism.

What I find both fascinating and tragic is that there are over 25 threads in the past two weeks over the situation in the Gaza Strip, which was brought on by Hamas.

Yet there are fewer than five threads about the large scale genocide going on in Iraq and Syria.
