okay, so a while back I got two parking tickets in the city of Vaughan.

Got a notice from MTO today that it's time to renew my stickers when I noticed $300 in outstanding fines. I call MTO, they say they can't do anything about it as they only collect the money for the city. I call city of Vaughan and they say there is nothing they can do cause they already processed it to the MTO and that they sent me a notice to pay the fine on time. (I probably thought it was nothing important and through them out)

Is there anything I can do or am I SOL? $300.00 is about 3 days work for me and also seems kind of excessive.

I think you a SOL myself. I had one ticket I forgot to pay and there was nothing I could do about it except pay up. If you can still go to court, you might be able to argue it, but that will cost you a day plus you may still have to pay the $300.

Are you sure that Shack hasn't been in Vaughan ripping up parking tickets? Might be a defence :)

okay, well thanks for the feedback. Wasn't what I was hoping to hear...lol. Just seems weird to me that they can fine you, and tell you because they kicked it to the MTO nothing can be done. Almost seems unconstitutional but what the hell do I know? I just the common fold getting hit but another dumb government cash grab.

Umm...you got parking tickets and didn't pay them, thinking that Vaughan is some sort of rules be damned free for all. I'm having trouble figuring out what the problem is

yup you are SOL. If you wanted to dispute the tickets, you only have a set time period to do it. If you choose to just ignore them like you did, then you are considered guilty and are responsible for the financial consequences.

You ignored the ticket and the followup reminders. Yep, sounds unconstitutional and like a gov't cash grab to me.

Chalk this up to a learning experience, pay your fine and move on. Sheesh.

You're unlucky. Vaughan has it's own BS system for parking tickets. Your only recourse is to pay...their tickets don't even go through the court system even if you did wish to fight it.

The firm I work for received a conviction for a ticket and the fine was due, but we had a paralegal make a motion to fight it because it affects our CVOR rating which has greater ramifications than the cost of a ticket.

However, in the OP's case, it is not worth to try to fight it at this point. He has no choice, unless he doesn't want to renew his licence or sticker.

This is what I was trying to say, but all the law-abiding citizens here on TERB aren't getting that.

I wonder how much of that $300 the original parking ticket fines were.

I've had some pretty stupid parking tickets thrown my way. Once for parking on a two-lane street large enough for four lanes and boasting no "No Parking" sign. Once for parking in my driveway between the sidewalk and the street (no part of the sidewalk was covered). Once for parking facing the wrong direction. And once for parking on the street during "winter months" even though it was 10+ degrees Celsius outside at night and no snow to be found. In all cases, I think it was a nosy neighbour being an asshole and calling it in.

Of all those, only the last one has some merit (I guess temps could have plunged unexpectedly and they'd need to salt the road). But I paid every one of them right away.
