Thank goodness it doesn't happen often but now and then I run into an idiot and a jerk.

I see this guy at the meter getting ready to pay full fare. I offered him my spot at a 50% discount. He declined. That's fine no sweat off my back.

Then, yes then, he said if he were me he would have offered the spot for free. The jerk would have accepted my spot on my dime. What a jerk!

End of rant.
I think the title, suits you better !!

Someone mentioned Maple Leafs tickets upthread.

Not quite the same thing, but I bought (Lord of the Idiots Costanza!) a ticket pack for the Memorial Cup this year.

Due to some last minute switching of plans, we had a pair that were going to go unused, Guelph vs Edmonton.
As I live not very far from the arena, and had about 1/2 hour to spare, rather than waste the tickets, I drove downtown, double parked my car, stepped out of it, and, holding the tickets in the air..... yelled "Anyone need seats for today's game?!?!?"

A few people said yeah, came over.
I explained the situation, I would give 'em away, but if someone wanted to offer me some cash, every dollar would go to the local food bank.
Two guys said yeah, I'll pay you for them, they bid each other up to $60.
Every $$ went to the food bank, tickets got used, couple people got to go who otherwise wouldn't (and saved $120), face value was $180.

Win, Win, Win.

I was recently in Newfoundland and caught a concert one nite in st Anthony The band was staying at the same small hotel as me, so we ended up chatting over breakfast the morning after the concert. Saw the same guys again at lunch that day at a lighthouse restaurant and they were kind enough to pose for a few pics for me. I left the restaurant about ten minutes before them and decided on impulse to simply pick up their tab at the till....without them knowing about it. I'm not going to brag about the amount other than to say it was substantial.

Dudes...ya gotta have some class and style in life. Quit the penny pinching grovelling for fucks sakes, or is that what happens to you when you live in an urban maze too long?

I was standing in line at Tim's and the lady in front of me was told that the debit machine was not in use. She had no cash on her, so I told her I would pay for her order. Sometimes you just gotta do the right thing.

Today I found a tag with a few hours on it in the machine at Yonge and Wood St. It has been a good day, Ty :)
See?! That shit's awesome. It happened to me once and it made my fucking day.. That's why I started doing it.

It's not like I'm donating money out of my own pocket.. The money is already gone and spent.. I used the ticket as much as I could, and now the ticket is worthless to me. The ticket, however, still could be of value to somebody else.. So why not fucking give it to them?

I always leave my tag at the machine whenever there is more than 20 min time left or give it to someone trying to buy the tag. Try helping someone without expecting anything in return. You will be surprised how their sincere appreciations make you feel.

I do the same thing. If I don't see a car without a PAD ticket on the dash I stick it back in the machine.

Speaking of which, does anyone remember this little scam? You used to be able to buy a $20 (or other amount) prepaid Visa or MasterCard, use it until the balance was $0 but then continue to use it pay and display machine for as much free parking as you wanted. The machines didn't verify there was a balance left on the cards.

I can't remember how long I enjoyed free parking but it was well over a year before they caught on and fixed the problem. Whenever anyone was behind me at the meter I'd always hit maximum time, hand them the ticket and wish them a nice day. I'd continue handing them out until no one else showed up then leave one in the machine. Upon my return I'd print another before getting in my car. It sure was fun while it lasted. :D

I always just give my ticket away if there is any time left on it. It's the right thing to do in my opinion.

I would never think to ask for money.

If someone asked me for money in exchange for a parking ticket, I would say no thanks and pay the machine.
Agreed.

Absolutely give your ticket to the next guy. In fact, if there is no next guy and I see the next car over is parked illegally (no ticket showing on the dash) I stick my still valid ticket on their windshield to help some anonymous stranger catch a break.

Don't be such an ass. Pay it forward. It's about small kindnesses to your fellow man (or woman).

I'd give it away but not sure about some jerk parking illegally.

Nope, I only offer unexpired parking tickets at half price to dudes wearing a $1,000 suit pulling up to a meter in a BMW.

So suddenly you're a champion of the underclass? "No, no, you got me wrong! I'm only an embarrassingly cheap shitheel and self-righteous about it to rich people. This is in no way indicative of a wider pattern of behaviour! What do you take me for?"*

Even the world's most irritating Occupy Wall Street hippy would just key the bastard's car, but wouldn't stoop to the kind of tightwad-then-indignant bullshit you've been flinging.

He needs the $3 even less than you do.

It's not the $3, $30, $300, etc.

It's his attitude that he is entitled to get something for nothing.
If he's pulling up to the meter he was willing to pay full price. Then you offer him your used ticket for half price. If you're leaving you no longer have a need for it anyway. In your retelling of this story you are still the jerk.

Wonder how skyryder manages those grocery carts where a quarter or a loony needs to be inserted. I usually leave mine sitting right by my vehicle and leave the coin in when I'm done or pass the cart on to someone going in. Bet he has a strategy to recoup the coins! Wonder how the scenario would play out if he found a loose cart with a coin still in it. Bet he would pass it on when he's done but demand payment
