So I took my mother to the casino for the day, she was playing a machine and had to use the bathroom. I guess these senior Canadian people were waiting for the machine that my mother was playing as I went to sit down to watch her machine, the woman preceded to call me a "chink" and I had some nerve stealing the machine since they were waiting for it. I yelled out "excuse me" and they ran away very fast. I was gonna follow them but the machine had credits in it. That really pissed me off. I'm also tired of people thinking I don't speak English because I'm oriental.

Unfortunately there are ignorant people out there. I am sorry that as a society we have not advanced to a stage where a person is judged on their character and not by the colour of their skin (quote stolen from Martin Luther King). Just note not everyone is like those women.

The stereotype of Asians is that they're docile which emboldens people to say anything they want to you because they don't think you'll take any action.

I am also sorry that both ILOVETHIS and Carling were exposed to this kind of ignorance and prejudice.

Several years ago I was on the receiving end when attempting to buy something in a store in the Markham / Richmond Hill area. I was in an Asian grocery and wanted to buy a spice. I stood at the cash and was ignored by the people working while they dealt with the Asians that were in line behind me. After they had taken 5 people the sixth turned to me and told me that they would not sell to me because I was Caucasian. She then turned to the staff and a very heated exchange took place between the staff and my saviour. Finally the woman took my purchase put it on the counter and demanded in Chinese that they sell to me. After giving me my purchase and the change the woman apologized to me and told me that many of the merchants refuse to sell to non-Asians.

The main difference in this story as that I do not face ignorance and prejudice on a daily basis the way so many other visible minorities in our province are forced to endure.

sorry to hear that too Mr.K ... its a real shame that the person at the grocery was such an asshole... racism is inclusive to all races... which store was it?.. i dont ever want to support a store that does business like that..

Huh??? No way! I assume they're all in Asian gangs and have black belts to boot. :p

Just kidding, obviously. Btw, you guys speak English real well for orientals. :thumb: (jk no. 2)

Everyone deals with idiots on a daily basis, idiots, racists, sexists, Mormons, whatever the case may be. It sucks but you can't let it ruin your day.

Its a bit of a generational thing right now. A lot of prrogress has been made but its going to be tough to get rid of it if that's all a person has lived. My father in law was from eastern europe. Hard worker, good husband and father. God fearing man.

And yet everything was the "Jews" fault. And nothing was going to change his mind.

Al I can say is its a lot less than what it was. And hopefully wil continue to lessen. From all races in the next generation.

Ah, the good old C- word
I sent a few racists into the hospital with concussions back in the days.. whites.. blacks.. browns.. talk shit get hit, and i hit pretty hard, hard enough to remember that calling the cops wont work
Racists have the smallest brains, no respect for one another, we are all human beings. Living the same day to day life, so when you disrespect that, I disrespect you.

White people the most racist imo

It's funny - I was thinking along this topic today - people will say the most hurtful thing they can think of in a hurry - obvious is someone's origins, something negative about their origins.
Then I got to thinking - does every origin have a negative connotation or a 'hate spot'. An article I was reading was about an Irish fellow complaining about Italians and the racism he experienced growing up. I that got me thinking - yeah we all do.
I am scottish - so what could they say to offend me? Oh yeah - cheap skate - oh yeah - It would hurt if I was identified as a cheapskate for no other reason than my heritage. Then I thought - boy I have it easy as it doesn't happen much. But I wonder what it would be like to be a very visable minority where you are not the superior race.
I snuck that in there - is being racist a statement that you consider yourself superior - I guess so.

Reminded of a joke - if New York City (pick anywhere) is made of up 73% visable minorities............wouldn't that make them the majority?
