My father recently passed away and now we are in the process of changing his name on all accounts over to my mothers name. We call up Bell, Union Gas, Reliance, Hydro and water. All no problems, changed the name right away. We call up Rogers, they can't change the name unless they see the Will.
All you should have to show them is a copy of the death certificate. You get about 10 copies from the funeral home to send off to CRA, OHIP etc.. Them asking for the Will is BS.

Look you did your job by trying to do the right thing. They want to be an ass.

Do this.....Don't transfer anything. Keep using your dad account (hey they don't want to change) and do not start a new account. Rogers checks credit which brings down your score (I think 10 points) so why hurt mom's credit. Rogers think they are so smart they ask for 2 pieces of ID and rarely tell customers that Rogers will start showing up on credit history. I know Fido shows up on mine.

So use your dads account till someone from them calls back to appologize to you for being an asshole.

I guess the alternative is to cancel the old account and let Rogers try to collect from the estate.

The widow can open a new account in her own name.

This situation really shows how stupid some companies are. Tell them " Good luck collecting from a decreased subscriber and when you are ready to make the switch give a call"

Great minds think alike.

It's so interesting reading this and seeing how people react
What Rogers is asking for is standard policy and it's backed by federal law if a person passes away companies like Rogers and banks have a right to ask for death certificate as a proof to insure there is no fraud going on. Now some of you may think that is stupid but that's how things are set up to protect people privacy and identity. I'm a little surprised I figured on this site out of all place you guys would like that but I guess that's not the case. Anyways as I said in my old reply it standard policy for them to ask for death certificate just provide it to them and get it over with don't take stupid ideas from here and have to deal with more bs later

I guess you missed the part where the OP said that Rogers asked for the Will, not the CoD.

Maybe I'm just a cagey old bastard, but I've lived long enough to see companies implement really stupid "policies" developed by numbskull staff without regard to customer service, practicality or common sense. They should thank us (the customer) for enlightening them when they go off the rails.

While you are correct in what you are saying consider what is at stake here. Rogers service is not a thing or property like a house or car which the OP is trying to change the name for. It's a service.

OP is trying to PAY not ask for money. There is a difference here.
Who cares who pays the bill to Rogers.

Personally if someone decided to pay my bill by declaring me dead heck I'll die.

Lol while I agree I would love for someone to pay my bills it's not about that at all it's about the address and making sure the person there is not messing up someone's else's account. The services is being provided do an address they need proof that person indeed lives
there or rents there. You can say taking over an account at address x but never pay the bill at that point the address gets place listed from Rogers to have services. An to other point I said early the person op spoke to must of mixed up the two documents as no one should ever as for a will unless it's a bank or other companies that need to give property or money.

The thread is BS or poster just spoke to someone who is an idiot

Rogers does NOT require a Will or Power of Attorney (I can't imagine what they would need it for)

Like every other company they DO require proof of death (usually via a death certificate)

It also is very funny how many people jump into a thread like this (most of them with very incorrect advice)

Personally, who gives them the right to see a personal document like the Will just to change the name. All of the other companies had not problems.
In my experience, you either love Rogers and hate Bell or vice versa. You may have reached a bad Rogers service rep. I'm not sticking up for Rogers but I've had bad experiences for both Roger and Bell. Sorry for your bad experience.
