He admits to shooting someone through a locked door. How can that be self defense? Shouldn't the only question be whether he is going down for life on first, or fifteen years on second degree?

With the door locked there is absolutely no chance he felt he was in any imminent danger.

I don't know what the laws are in SA but they must be screwy.

Some would say that it is Canada which is the outlier in the matter of "your home is your castle."

So you think it is reasonable to shoot people through locked doors and pretend it was self defense?

Let's say he really shot a burglar through a locked door. How is he not guilty as heck?

Wouldn't any reasonable person call 911 and wait? At least while the door is closed and locked you are not in any danger.

Good points Fuji.

If he's not guilty as heck, at least he's criminally negligent!

Gee, before I shoot someone through the door I might just first knock and ask who's inside

Do they allow you to shoot to kill where you live when you can't see who it is and whether or not they are armed?

More importantly, as he claims he was shouting at them before he shot, wouldn't his gf have responded? He's guilty and is going to be someones fun toy in prison!

I live in Toronto, and no I dont think the law allows that.

Maybe you missed my point, why didnt Oscar at the very least ask who's inside his washroom before unloading his firearm. His excuse of self-defense makes no sense

Keep in mind this is south Africa and not safe toronto

It's a different world and judges live in that same world- everyone knows someone who has been car jacked or attacked in their own home or shot- it makes for a totally different mind set

I think he is guilty as sin but I won't be shocked when he walks

Largely agree with what you wrote.

However, I will say that either he is a world class actor or he does have genuine contrition about what happened. Now that doesn't mean that he didn't do it.

Most wife beaters are genuinely sorry after the fact. He killed her in a fit of rage because she locked herself in the bathroom and refused to talk to him. After he shot her he broke down and cried and apologized to her dead body.

The very first thing (which almost certainly applies to all of us) is that I don't know nearly enough about the facts of the case to truly comment intelligently. The difference between what one hears in the courtroom, or even more so learns when involved in a case, and what one reads in even the best of newspapers is staggering.

He must think we're stupid
Most people with "narcissistic personality disorder" (NPD) think the rest of world is mostly stupid, and they themselves are super smart.

Lance Armstrong
Roger Clemens
A-Rod
Conrad Black

Just to name a few. They all suffer from this

I am not trying to defend the names above, however I feel that we all have narcissistic characteristics inside and suppress it at most of the times.

We all suffer from temptations and public figures are not exempted from it.

I personally feel bad for some athletes who do what they do in order to live with their egos...
