Canadian soldier charged with sexual assaulting 8 women in Pembroke, Petawawa

An infantry soldier has been accused of sexually assaulting and possibly drugging at least eight women in Pembroke and Petawawa during a period spanning almost seven years.

An Ontario Provincial Police source close to the investigation told the Citizen that some of the victims may not realize they were sexually assaulted because they were drugged.

In a rare move, the OPP released a photo Friday of Derrick Gallagher, 31, and the large and distinctive tattoos on his both of his upper arms.

Police said they are in the early stages of the investigation and don’t yet know where the alleged assaults took place.

What police do know is that the alleged sexual assaults occurred between January 2007 and March 14, 2014.

I am not clear on Canadian military law, if he is still in the military he may not only be facing sexual assault charges and drugging charges he may face military charges as well. Canada does not have military prison like Leavenworth in the US, he will serve time in Federal prison if found guilty.

You mean except for the detention barracks in edmonton?

I am sure that the prisoners at detention barracks are there for a short time, prisons are for long term offenders. Certainly detention barracks is nothing like Leavenworth.

You have proved my point for me in your last post, detention center does not hold prisoners for more than 24 months. In most jurisdictions that is the definition of a jail, not a prison,

As ex mil I can say this, you don't want to go to club Ed... sentences are from 14 days to 2 years. He will most likely serve two years there and then be transferred to the civilian authority. Oh and it is a military prison, not a detention barracks.
