Email and text security: Should SP's offer more?

Being new to the hobby and trying to arrange my first visits with independent SPs via email, it strikes me that there is potential for a lot of personal info being flung around in open cyberspace. Of course it's impossible to avoid all risk and if one chooses to sample the industry's offerings, one should consider the possible consequences. The problem is that no matter how careful I am, I am 100 per cent dependent on the SP's info management practices.

I was wondering if there is any demand from clients for SPs to provide data retention policies and/or offer encrypted email? I'm not talking about hiding one's identity from the SP, but protecting the privacy of both parties when making plans. Email accounts are ridiculously easy to hack, and you have to assume that everyone with whom you correspond uses a weak password for their email and cellphone and never empties their inbox. On top of that, it is likely that every email that passes through a US (and probably Canadian) server ends up being permanently stored on an NSA computer.

For example, PGP encryption is quite easy, free, and still secure (as far as we know), and SPs could post their public key on their website. Kind of nerdy and inconvenient but it would help everyone's privacy and safety. I think it would be a good business move, personally.

Anyway, I'm interested in the community's opinion.

Has anyone NOT seen an SP because of cyber security concerns?

Would you pick a less attractive, more restrictive SP because she offered better email communication security?

Yah, didn't think so.

I can see reputable agencies and tech-savvy indy SPs offering this as a low cost/effort service, but......

These are some of the things I do to protect my own privacy.
1. I never see any SP's that only book through texts or emails unless I have already seen these SP's previously.

2. When I book any indy SP's I always speak to her over the phone get a sense of her personality, if for any reason I
don't think she is a good match for me personality wise I totally skip her and see someone else, and if she is not willing to have a two minute conversation with me she is an SP that I would not want to see because personality wise it is not a good match for me.

3. Pick a fake name that you are comfortable with and use your fake name at all times (SP's use fake names and protect their own privacy and so should you)

4. Use a different email address for all your hobbying.

5. Use a second phone number for all your SP bookings and hobbying, unless you are single and feel comfortable using your main number.

6. Never under any circumstances provide your home address, your employment information to any SP. Even if they ask for employment info just give a general description of what you do or just state the industry you are employed in.

And always remember if an SP tries to pry or force you to provide information that you don't feel like providing due to discretion always tell her and if she is adament about getting this information just skip her and go to the next SP.
Your privacy and discretion should be just as important and if an SP can not accomodate that then it is her business but it is business lost for her.

Exactly, like I always say, I work in an office.

I would if it was privacy related.

I think the issue here is privacy and reducing your risks of being "seen". You never know when it will come back.

If you hold a high profile position this is very necessary. I can vaguely recall one terbie seeing some famous celebrity getting into an MP. Good thing this guy stuck to the code. Other concern is if your SO is tech savvy or hires a PI. As for identity theft or anything like that, i think the risks are low if you do your research ahead of time, and I never really worry about this.

I would pay the premium if I could somehow totally avoid going into the MPs or being seen. Knowing my luck, one day my SO is bound to jump from under the table and give me surprise 3 some ha ya right, or a surprise restraining order, or maybe a good beating but I know it is inevitable :p I'll take the last any day :)

Since you are new to the hobby I am going to give you the most important piece of advice.

When booking a SP make sure you book SP's based on what you are attracted to in a female for example if you like curvy girls do not book an SP who is skinny as this would lead to dissapointment and it could possibly ruin your session. Now some hobbyists are about specific services so first find the SP that you are into physically and then narrow it down by the services you are looking for.

I always follow this rule and have had only a handful of dissapointing sessions hobbying.

Inhale helium before phoning to change your voice.
Wear a disguise.
When driving to her location, never go in a direct route.
Switch vehicles at least twice on the way.
If you suspect you're being tailed, call off the encounter.

hehehehee...just pretend you are james bond or tom cruise, it will be much funner. Make sure you destroy both vehicles after your encounter, drowning them in the lake would probably be the best or pond and burn any evidence including your clothes and make sure u take an acid bath to eliminate all fermones...I think that should do it.

Or you can just turn the "find my iPhone off" and pretend that you are a secret service agent :)

I think the OP is overthinking things. A hobby email? of course. Perhaps a hobby phone (although I would be more likely to get caught because of the second phone lol). But I think it's too much to be concerned about when talking about levels of email encryption and stuff being stored by the NSA

Thanks for the feedback.

Consider though if your favorite SP's GMail or Yahoo account gets hacked. They may not know for weeks, and if bookings, dates, times are all in clear text, the intruder will know a lot about the SP's schedule and personal life, even if the messages are deleted regularly. Same for an unsecured SP phone that gets stolen. I have no idea how much information is exchanged via email between SPs and clients, but it seems to me that most people don't realize how easy it is to snoop on, and how easy it is to trace email back to its source.

Also, just having a hobby email address is not in any way secure - just ask David Petraeus and his girlfriend.

All I'm saying is that good security is good business. I think a lot of clients who understand the implications would appreciate it.

Cheers,

Wab

If you're that paranoid, this hobby is not for you. There are other risks you'll be taking besides this phone issue that you may not be aware of.

Ugh, that is the most unimpressive thing that guys say when they try to introduce themselves.
I know what you mean with this, however I have a question :). Some professions are looked down upon by their peers or through the regulatory bodies governing them for say paying for sex such as police, doctors ect... Or even potiticians who are in the public eye. Since we don't know some of you that well what are we supposed to say until that trust level is built up. I don't feel comfortable lying about it but may need a bit more time to open up to you, but then run the risk of loosing your respect or being misunderstood as being arrogant or something. So how do you politely say that at this time you don't feel comfortable discussing that without disrespecting the service provider.

Changing passwords regularly is important. If you get a password generator app you can get random number and letter sequences nobody would ever guess. Don't set your email account or terb account etc to "automatically sign you in" in case your device is stolen or compromised.

Most smartphones have security features besides the password that can protect the information contained. I have Blackberry Protect on my phones, it enables me to gps locate the phone if it's lost or stolen. It also allows me to remotely access and delete my email, text & phonecall history, and my contact list.

We do what we can, but we expect that you also take responsibility for safeguarding your information and ours. If you're very high profile and are concerned your position would be compromised if your activities were discovered I'd ask the lady to sign a non-disclosure agreement.

Don't forget to have fun :D
All browsers have a Private mode where passwords, logins, temporary files are not kept while you browse Terb, escort ads, etc. Learn to use these properly too. Always use a browser to check your hobbying e-mail address because you can use the Private browsing feature. As far as I know, e-mail clients do not have a private mode and emails are stored on your hard drive for just about anyone to see.

At the end of the day, it's common sense that will protect you. Never get explicit in texts, emails or phone calls about what you want, how you enjoyed or didn't enjoy your time last night. You'll have at least some plausible deniability that way.
