Your reasoning is bizarre.
In this city, Ford was elected on the mandate of subways and lower taxes via cut the gravy.
I remember you screaming that it was all wrong. You support fervently every attempt to undermine and oust Ford, simply based on his policies.
Why cannot you wait four years to try to vote him out, rather than what we have witness so far.
Your socialist view of democracy is the only type you can tolerate. To the point that all other views and people who do not hold them are to be dismissed.
You actually want to exile me to Somalia, do you not?
Haha - that's your type of democracy in action!
:blabla:
Since it seems it was your turn to Drag Rob Into Yet Another Topic, I'll just point out that he hasn't lowered taxes, and they've gone up again in the latest budget. He did abolish the $5 a month Vehicle Tax (without making the slightest effort to refund any, even if you paid your annual bill the morning he repealed it) That succesfully sabotaged an entire city-wide transit plan and he still had to raise property taxes. He'll finish his entire term without making a start at abolishing the Land Transfer tax as he promised.
He never had a clue how to get a subway plan going; the one we're now stuck with thanks to his non-stop bleating is the work of Stintz, deBaermaker, and Glen Murray who weren't as content to collect their pay and do nothing as Ford so clearly was and is. It's the wrong line in the wrong place it costs too much, it'll come in way too late and we could serve more people better and sooner for less, as Chow and Socknaki have both had brains and guts to say.
If Ford had the ability or the will to keep a smidgeon of his promises, his subway woulda been underway in the first year as part of the enthusiastic votes that killed Transit City (but back then he wasn't sure where to put it and mostly talked Eglinton). Nothing he coulda done except eat crow about the gravy that wasn't there to be found though, but an honest man woulda admitted it and got on with the job, instead of whining (and drugging) resentfully and alone while the leaderless City declined further. All he could think to do was: Free the Bags.
There are all sorts of useful positions to look at our politics and City from, but none of them usefully involve Rob 'One of my Stupors' Ford doing any looking, and the only reason to keep him in view at all is to limit damage to what he's already done.
Government exists so we can do together what none of us can do alone. Nothing ever gets done for free. Don't wanna pay for it, tell us all what government should not do, and convince enough others to carry the day, and when the bills come down, then the price we pay for doing that reduced amount of stuff together can come down too.
But only idiots—not precisely true, so do bandits pirates and thieves—begin the process by reducing what they pay and demanding the all the same goods. Or else. Only the monumentally selfish really think they are entitled to spend what they want on mindless pap, and that no one should ask them to contribute their share to the commonwealth. And unless they were surrounded by others as deficient, only the feeblest of idiots would dare to say cable TV was anything but a forgoable luxury.
