We should make the minimum wage $50. That way no one would be poor.
No problem we could eliminate poverty overnight if we had the will.

How has that worked out in Communist or if you prefer State-Capitalist states?
The Red baiting is getting tiresome. Is Brazil communist? Look at what they have done lately.

This economy can take combinations of higher minimum wages and negative income tax to the point that poverty is basically eliminated?

Is Finland Communist? 5% poverty rate.

How is poverty defined? The % of the working population making less than half of the median wage. It is therefore relative to a societies capacity to deliver the goods.

Your ultra left agenda is also getting tiresome.
Brazil, a miracle driven by destroying the rainforest we depend on for our oxygen?
I can not comment on Finland, however scaling an economy the size of Finland to North Americas is bound to encounter some structural issues, which will negate your hypothesis.

So if poverty is defined as making 1/2 the minimum wage, logic dictates there are people not making the minimum wage
Raising the minimum wage ( as you have advocated) only means now they are making a smaller fraction of the minimum wage and there are more people below that poverty threshold.

Another win for the working man?

No not half the minimum wage half the median wage.

Of all 65 OECD countries the USA has the 4th worst income inequality behind Chile, Turkey and Mexico.

Pathetic.

I guess irony wasn't among the topics you lectured about. Someone's got to be below average income.
Let me type this very slowly so you get it.

First you find the median wage of the nation.

Next you take half of it.

Now you define poverty as making less than half of the median wage.

Is that too tough for you? Everybody else gets it.

Say the median wage of a country is $60 000.

You are defined as poor if you make less than $30 000.

Was that difficult?

Are you taking area of employment into account? Because 30k in Sault st Marie goes a hell of a lot further than 30k in Toronto.
