The man is a fucking hypocrite! Preaching about EVERYONE else to cut this, that and the other thing out of our lives while he lives high on the hog...

Ya ya ya, we've been all over that and buried it deep, but you need something/anything to cling onto.

I'm sure everyone knows this, but just in case it's not clear...owning and using an incandescent light bulb is not illegal...the ban is on importing and manufacturing in Canada. If you can get them into your house, you can use them to your heart's content.

And btw, switching 40 incandescent 100W to CFL will save you enough money to actually notice it on your bill. The bulbs pay for themselves quickly. LED still needs to come down in price, and they will...especially since they now come in dimmable and different colour temperatures.

Is this federal or Ontario legislation?

Sounds good

So the knee JERKS politicians just obsoleted dimmers, and are going to cost most people who have them, to have them changed back to switches until dimmable LEDS come way down in price.

As far as power saving, people leave electronics on standby up all night long, which is a total WASTE of power, is anything done with that ???

And what's with all of those 150 watt spot lights people use to light up the front of their houses, just to LOOK good,…another total waste,…anything done about that ???

And by far, ANY appliance that is in the kitchen will use 500 times or more than a 100 watt light bulb.

This is just politicians being politicians,...

Individuals are supposed to put up with the crappy light from florescent, without the ability to change the intensity, and when they die, throw them in the garbage along with mercury that’s in them.
While office buildings are light up all fricken night, that is also a total waste.

I have dimmers on all of my bulbs, and NEVER replace them, and they are usually running at less than half of their rating, unless I need additional light.

Incandescent light is warmer in color and causes less eye strain. Fluorescents of all kinds are towards the blue end of the spectrum and are significantly harder on your eyes. Many LED lights have this problem a well.

A smart solution is to use a mix of lighting sources with a couple of florescent or LEDs in a room supported by a single central incandescent. That is dramatically less power than all incandescent but still provides a quality lighting experience.

Banning incandescent prevents even judicious use of them.

And as has come to my attention this week, CFL bulbs dim significantly in temperatures below 5 degrees Fahrenheit.

all CFLs have a temperature range for which they are rated... some are rated for cold temperatures, but they are more expensive than the home depot / costco stuff....

also, most CFL's are not rated for use in enclosed fixtures

You will save some money initially until consumption comes down. Then the utilities will cry foul and jack the hell to the rates, cuz they still have to pay for upkeep and infrastructure.
Now we will all pay though the nose. They have already started this crap down in the states with solar power taking a bite out of the utilities profits.

Exactly...

Anyone that thinks their power bill will actually go down is smokin something.

One more thing...as part of the Energy Efficiency Act, appliances are subject to the same rules and will be regulated the same way. I can't remember who brought it up earlier, but expect to see more efficient ovens, fridges and freezers in the near future.

I don't see a problem with stockpiling incandescents...if you want true "daylight" style lighting, CFL are not a perfect match (although they are very close in the 827 colour temp range), but expect to pay for it.

A friend of mine (who also happens to be a TV figure) once said to me "the best deterrent to high gas prices, is higher gas prices". I happen to agree with him.

100% forecast that consumption will go up. Again, the electric car is not far away. It too, will be forced upon us.
Actually, demand for electricity in Ontario is down.

It's been dropping every year. Mainly due to the closing down of heavy industry and manufacturing (sadly). (De-industrialization as they say.)

OPG has actually been lamenting the loss of demand for electricity.

One thing they don't tell you is when a CFL bulb breaks there is mercury vapor present which can cause serious health problems.

You are correct in that electricity demand in Ontario is down, that a good chuck of that is from less activity in the industrial sector and some of that reduction is due to the rising cost of electricity in Ontario. At one time Ontario electricity prices were in the cheapest 20% in North America. Thanks to the Ontario Liberals we are now in the top 30%. And of course the Liberals will not mention the loss of industry and associated good paying jobs that resulted from their dumbass energy policies. Instead, they will take credit for reduced electricity demand as being a result of their successful "conservation" efforts and then use taxpayer money to put a pony in every backyard. Oh, excuse me, a pony in every "deserving" backyard.
