The question is should the AW get paid the same
Or more!
Sure, why not? People need to stop putting cops, firefighters, nurses, doctors, teachers on a pedistal. It's a job, just like any other job.If they don't like how much they get paid they can quit and get a real job......like most people here.

So you think being a cop, firefighter, nurse, doctor, teacher are not real jobs? What do you classify as a real job? Serving at MacDonald's? Cleaning offices at night? wtf?

Police is traditionally blue collar job. Now it's paying more than middle manager, accountant, engineers, you know something is wrong.

When government employees bitch coz they only got a 3% raise(yearly) then I have no sympathy.By the way, working at McDonald's or cleaning offices are real jobs. You shouldn't be looking down on people who do them.
The point is these jobs(cops, nurses, etc.) are going to bankrupt cities and provinces.Much the way people bitch about the auto industry and other private companies.Always blaming the lowest guy on the totem pole for their high wages & benefits.
So yes,I think cops, nurses, etc are way overpaid and all they do is bitch.

lol i'm sorry, i didnt realize that people who clean offices or work at mcd's put their lives on the line daily, have to expose themselves to communicable diseases, violence, dying people, take responsibility over the lives of others, work 12 hours shifts, be on call when they're not working, and have to manage high stress situations on a daily. my bad!

i dont think anyone is looking down on cleaning people, but sorry, you cant compare the role of a trauma nurse to an office cleaner. i'm sure you can see the difference there. ??

All you need is a HS diploma and 2 years of police foundations. Yet in the other some of the other professions you listed you need an undergrad, some experience requirements in the field and finally a professional certification. Definitely overpaid.

what about them? i have no idea how much they get paid, but they should be well compensated, as well as given easy access to rehab (physical as well as psychological) upon completion of their tours of duty.

Its just government salaries are always bloated, if police was privatized, salaries would reflect their true value contribution.

How do the wages of an OPP Constable and an RCMP Constable compare with those of a City of London or TPS Constable? Anyone have these figures at hand?
According to a letter from OPP Supt. Rick Philbin to reeves and mayors, as of Jan. 1, 2014, OPP constables will get a pay hike — from $87,240 to $94,702. A sergeant goes from $98,093 to $106,483. Heck, the detachment clerk goes from $55,439 to a cool $60,181.

An RCMP constable’s salary is $79,308 – behind the national median of $83,483 and trailing the top Canadian constable's salary of $87,880.

Don't forget Police here in Ontario go to the Ontario Police COLLEGE!
RCMP go the RCMP ACADEMY!
So you just don't become a Police Officer with the PF course. In fact once you are at OPC or Depot in Regina they will tell you FORGET all you learned in PF! We will teach you properly.

Talk about efficient training. They will do anything including extending education requirements to justify the elevated pay. In another 10 years, police will require as much education as lawyers, and make just as much, probably more. A new generation of aristocrats with guns.

Job salaries never correlates to value contribution, or skills required, more related to how easy it is to replace you. With an oversupply of highly educated workforce, and influx of immigrants, white collar jobs are no longer lucrative, because it's easy to find replacements. Union jobs regardless how simple, are protected by law. Perhaps we are slowly becoming communist while China capitalist.

If a person is willing to make it part of his/her job description to stand in front of a bullet for me or my family I'm willing to help pay $80,000.00..........some of these responses are sad .

You are willing? How about 10% income tax hike to bring soldiers pay inline with police? Because they too are willing to stand in front of a bullet, or even bomb for you?

from the OP article > "Pension issues are going to be immensely expensive, making retention pay look like a tea party,"

Wonder how many increases in gas tax, stamps, hydro rates, income tax, etc our shrinking economy can absorb, to pay for all these public sector pays and pensions before it collapses. 1 in 5 people work for the public sector, 1 in 5 people are retired, leaving 3 in 5 to pay for all this. The provincial debt is $288.1 Billion and climbing.
