Duckworth's on Kingston road between Midland and St. Clair
Duckworths is on Kingston Rd west of Midland before the fork at Danforth Rd on North side. Great fish and chips, family run, since the 1950s.

Fish and chips is kind of bland tasting. As long as fresh ingredients, fish, potatoes and oil are used, then cooked properly, it is all good. Many places qualify as the best in Toronto IMHO.

"best fish n chips" and "toronto" just don't go together. You need to be British to know this ;)

Try Henry's in Georgian Bay ... it's a lil frozen right now but next year .. boat or plane only... it's on an island. But oh so yummy. For fresh water fish n chips.

Even better... on the ocean... try Pajos ... it's a lil further ... Steveston BC.

:D
Been to Henrys many times in the summer. They have a restaurant in Midland too that you don't need a boat or plane to get to. They come down to the Toronto boat show one in a while. They are quite pricy, but worth it since they have a unique recipe.

Heritage fish and chips has multiple locations in Brampton.
I was at the Queen St W and 410 location today just before noon and there were about 50-70 other people seated already.

Uncle Harry's Fish and Chips @ birchmount/danforth Rd was the go to place when I was growing up.

St Andrews Fish & Chips 1589 Ellesmere Rd (Ellesnere/McCowan) was not bad either.

So true. There isn't good fish n chips in North America. It's like finding a good burger in England.....you can't.

I disagree, the batter in fish and chips is simply to make and unsophisticated compared to many of the international foods available today in Toronto. This food is a through back to a former time in the UK where there was not much else to eat , just local halibut or haddock, covered in bland batter and cooked in stale oil and the wrapped in discarded newspaper to keep it warm. Today the most popular take out food in the UK is curry, no more fisherman, the island imports fish from Asia now increasingly. Fish & Chips joints in the UK are going towards extinction.

I couldn't agree more, now for the real schism of British fish'n'chips and the whole North/South divide thing - Beef dripping or vegetable oil for frying?

I couldn't disagree more, even with identical ingredients each British fryer will make very different fish'n'chips of varying quality. It is a relatively easy dish to make, but a very easy dish to make badly. Nothing that I have had in Toronto or the GTA comes even in the top 60% of fish'n'chips that I have had (I was brought up about 20 miles from the original Harry Ramsden's shop, my aunt and uncle live about 2 miles away).

Captain George's in Port Perry is the best I have had in the GTA so far

Don't know the name of either of these places but they're both good.

1. In the plaza at the south-west corner of Renforth and Rathburn

2. In the plaza east side of Hurontario just south of Eglinton.
