I don't like robo calls and I don't like Ford. However I do like my Lexus.
Lexus/Acura/Infiniti???? Never understand how people can justify paying $20,000 + for a glorified Toyota/Honda/Nissan.

Lexus agree to disagree.

Rather harsh? No?

Why are the people of the world signed up for TWITTER? To stay in tune! They WANT INFORMATION. A simple, current, and well received concept..
Mr. Mahovolich (because Frank was awesome), I think you miss one important aspect of the information age and our current society.

They DO NOT want to hear the important stuff, or have to think too hard about anything. They want to hear what Miley Cirus
ate for breakfast, or if The Bieber had a bowel movement. They do not want to hear from "the man" or any other authority figure.

Does this mean you actually approve of telemarketers interrupting you or filling up your voice mail? A robocall is just the lowest possible species of telephone spamming, as the instigator can't be bothered to pay actual humans to make their sales-pitch.
Actually I stated earlier that I don't like them. Still don't. There are lots of things I don't like. But they are legal.

The main point of the statement was to answer a comment made that the voters in the area hadn't been getting information on the subway. I disagreed and had stated that there had been a lot of information in the mainstream media about it. That all he did (though I hate them) was no different than an e-mail blast or other direct marketing out there.
The mainstream media had not overly covered the actual vote breakdown. So now they know something about. It was a contentious issue that the voters should know how the councillor swung. Let them decide next year in the election with this in mind.
If the press are allowed(and don't give a lot of coverage to) to report it...why can't the Mayor?

Reminds me of Now Magazine last week praising the new agreement with Austin,Texas for assistance with our indy music scene. And NO mention that it was the Mayor, on his own dime who put it together. Not even a hint.

His opponents condemn him without also giving praise in the media on a regular basis. So he creates his own media to counter act it.

At this point defining the "media" is tough enough. And it is all for gain, whether financial or political. He didn't start the game. He is playing it.

who wants to stand at their door and talk to a canvassing person....or ' chat' on the phone ?....NO ONE!!!
Actually Ford does. That is the one thing about him that I do have respect for. A while ago, when they talked about
how he returns everyone's calls, I tested it. It took about 1 month after I left him a message, but he did call me back.

I usually stay away from 'political threads', but my main concern remains that Rob Ford continues to display a stunning lack of leadership.

I initially liked some of his original desire to cut excess at City Hall, but frankly, a leader unites a team (even as unruly as City Council) and establishes a cooperative, collaborative environment where different ideas can still be voiced.

Obviously this has not happened and city hall has become even more dysfunctional.

All I know is that if I displayed any of his behaviour in my corporate setting, I would have been kicked to the curb a long time ago - not for the force of my opinions, but rather how I worked - or didn't work - with my colleagues.

You miss a main point here YYZ. Should it always be Ford that acquieces, unites, capitulates, gives in? Or do the Adam Vaughans of Council also have an onus to go with the Mayor as well.

Given that the 'big' vote at election time goes to the Mayors Chair and his mandate, should those on the left of Council not also bear some responsibility to 'give in' as well.

After all, it takes two to tango.

Its too easy for those against the Mayor to sit back, do nothing and say 'the Mayor is too rammy'..... I would call it passive aggressive on the part of the lefties...particularly when the vote at the last election clearly spelled out what direction the electorate wanted the city to go in.

All this aside...I'm still for ROBOCALLS.... To get the thread back on topic.

I can only imagine a city council full of more people like your pal, Ford.
They'd all whine and refuse to support each other, flood us all with robocalls daily complaining about each other while getting nothing done.
They'd be showing up at noon and leaving at 2, trying to hire more assistants to keep their hobbies going and generally making a circus.

So now you're supporting a liar, who lies with robocalls and broke his main campaign promise to not raise taxes while building the wrong subway that he promised the private sector would build.

That's what should be out there on robocalls.

I'm going to have to concede that, owing to your repeated questions on the pay as go thread, that you may not understand how telephones work.
Have you ever used one that doesn't have a rotary dial?
Or have you used one that doesn't have a wire hooked up to a wall?

Now now....you are, ironically, being that bully and name caller that you accuse Mr Ford of being.

Im just in here having a normal conversation about varying attitudes of ROBOCALLS.

no need to bully ol Frankie....cause ol Frankie is too coy to be bullied!

however a simple, truthful message like Mr Ford put out,
You have no idea what the message was other than it was truthful for Ford. Did Ford bother to explain that Ainslie dropped his support because Ford's plan included the raising of taxes to cover it - and like Ford, Ainslie was voted in because he would not raise taxes ? Ford just put out an unsolicited political message to trash the opposition uncontested. It is the move of an overbearing cry baby.

Sadly, I think Ford's lack of hard drugs and booze is starting to affect his judgement. The sooner his drug buddies get out (not the murderers - those friends should stay) - the better Ford will behave.

I am FOR robo calls. It is an efficient way of getting out the message.

i think people don't like what he said, so are against the messaging format.

Folks, we are in an INFORMATION AGE. Speed, efficiencies and blanket coverage is what dictates our communication era. Think FACEBOOK, TWEETING, MYSPACE.... the list goes on!

If he had robocalled a Christmas message...there would not have been a peep.

All Councillors should use this to get out a message. PERIOD,
Only if the first call (and every robocall thereafter) has complete How to Get Yourself On the Do Not Call List instructions.
PERIOD! Really fm, why promote shouting on TERB as well as the crass interruption of or lives by self-promoting political telemarketers? Don't we need more civility these days?

It may well be that we're in some age where speed and loudness rather than content and thought are what "…dictates our communications era"*, but that is not a Good Thing in and of itself. Nor is it in anyway a good thing when it comes to the long overdue matter of Ford pulling his thumb out on transit. Nor when all he's doing is slagging an opposing member on Council.

He's just demonstrated his mind and manners are the equal of Boris the Mover (or any duct cleaning scam). We don't really want to know you think that's actually a good thing in your favorite pol.
----------------
* I'm not sure what precisely you meant by the 'dictating' phrase, but as long as you do I'll use it to point out other things can be much more important than mere speed. Speed is good for gossip and rumour, not good government.

Ainslie just ripped or should I say widened the Ford brothers arses today. The Fordies are all angelic and apologetic today with 'we did nothing wrong, and it won't happen again, really folks, believe us'.

I suspect Ainslie will not get Re elected!

i read the Stars version of Ainslies retort! To call it ripping a 'new arse' is a bit of a stretch. And that is the Star report.

The robo-calls idea was the brain-fart of the elder dumb bully brother. The younger even dumber bully brother said, "ya, that's a great idea!"
